SEB AND I FINALLY CLEANED OUR 55GAL TANK. HOOYEAH.
We had to fill it up again after we fully drained it out with the gravel vaccum, because there was so much algea left in there.
We took the fish out of it about a month ago and put them into a big tub with a pump and a couple plants we had just bought from the pet shop around that time. Then just a couple weeks ago we took all of the plants out of the 55gal and put them into a big bucket and hid it in a dark corner to stop the growth of algea that was on the leaves. I also treated them for parasites.
Day before yesterday I took all of those plants out of the bucket, pruned them, and placed them in the same tub as the guppies. Since they were all tangled in a bucket for two weeks, they were growing all topsy-turvy when I pulled them out. So I have them anchored to the bottom now with some aquarium lights over the top of them so they will hopefully start to grow upwards towards the light now.
I'm off to the pet shop today to buy some sand for the 55gal. I gave all of the old gravel to my mom to put in her garden, or to do whatever she wants with it. I figured I should trade in the gravel for sand now, since the goldfish are getting big enough to pick up the gravel in their mouths and move them around. Goldfish have a tendency of getting pieces lodged in their mouth, and sometimes the fit will be so tight you will nearly have to break the fish's mouth to get the piece out. So, I'm going to go ahead and prevent that from happening while I can. sweatdrop
Um, what else. Oh right--since Seb and I have totally broken down the 55gal we're going to have to cycle it again to get it nice and biologically balanced. So I'll have to buy a few things to do a fishless cycle.
Oh, and I just found a tiny bit of ich on one of my goldfish's tail. I guess I will have to treat him as soon as I get back. gonk
Right now Seb and I are going to go find some place to eat something, then off to the petshop and then we'll be hooome again.
Wow--I'm leaving the house? I haven't done that in quite a few months.
