Sparkiling Lights: The Razzle Dazzle of 80's Cartoons
Let's chat about those wonderful animated thirty minute commercials, which in the eighties were called cartoons. My favorites include Jem and the Holograms, She-ra: Princess of Power, He-Man: Masters of the Universe, and The Real Ghostbusters (although I'm partial to Filmation's Ghostbusters). I loved the opening theme to Kidd Video, too.
I guess I was so interested in my first three listings because of the transformation sequences. I kept pin pointing the moment when Jerrica turned into Jem, or when Princess Adora became She-ra. There's something about the exciting music and flashy special effects that play during these scenes, that made me want to buy the toys all the more badly. Of couse, when I tried to replicate these transformations while playing with the toys, it never seemed as spectacular.
I'd run into this same obssession with animated transformation sequences when I first started watching Sailor Moon. But then, those scenes actually had slight nudity in them. I'm actually surprised at myself for not watching more mahou shoujo ("magical girl" wink anime.
