She was lost, that much the girl was sure of. Where she was, when she was, none of that she knew. Her heart leapt farther up her throat as the growling she'd heard earlier happened once again. "Not good." she whispered softly to herself. The girl paused for a brief second to look right and left.
To the left, the park and wide open spaces with seemingly very few places to hide. The right showed buildings, allies, dumpsters, somewhere she could definitely find a place to hide in. After the quick survey with her mind she chose the right.
The growling was getting closer and she could just faintly make out the tapping of dogs claws as she ran. She shouldn't have taken the dare. Had she just listened to her older brother she'd have been fine. Had she just walked away, had she not jumped the fence. The girl could still hear her brothers pleading of, "Meena, don't do it! Don't go through with it!"
Meena was knocked out of her thoughts as she stumbled over several garbage cans. The growling was even closer now, so hurriedly she scrambled to her feet and ran on through the cold night air. She didn't know where she was going, heck she didn't know where she was.
Earlier that day the school 'queen' dared her to go through a hole in the wall at the back of 'Barkers Park.' Meena had instantly agreed. What could be so bad about a hole? Though once she got out of school and saw the hole she realized why the 'queen' had dared her. You couldn't see what was on the other side of the hole, it was just pitch blackness. After a small exchange of words between her brother, Meena had stepped through the hole.
Once Meena had crossed through she found herself in a small suburban area. It was night time, the kind of night where you couldn't see two feet in front of your nose. The she'd heard the growling. There had been a bunch of barking, someone had yelled at her and then the chase through hell had begun.
Meena turned another corner and ran through the darkness. Her heart raced and her mind refused to move. Why was she being chased?! What was going on?? She suddenly came to a halt, her eyes on the dead end. "No.." Meena whispered softly. She turned and heard the growling approach.
Meena was about to give up when she spotted a hole to her left. The girl hesitated as she looked at it. Then without pausing she threw herself forward. Meena passed through the hole with ease, and hit the ground hard on the other side. Confused she looked around, half of her praying she was back, the other half knowing she wasn't.
Meena was in a large grassy field with nothing, but land scape all around her. In the distance she could see one lone tree with a hole in its trunk, and then came the growling. She got to her feet running for the hole again. She'd just about had it when the growling ended only to be replaced by barking.
Meena opened her eyes some the staccato beeping of her alarm clock sounding in her ears. She sat up rubbing her temple with the tips of her fingers. "Ah.." she groaned slightly, "What an odd dream."
