...And the people are correct, you really do need to study naked anatomy to learn.

I finally started to a year or so ago, and my drawing's become so much better.

It isn't a shameful thing to look at naked people, especially with an artist's point of view.

Oh: You might want to consider purchasing some books by Joseph Sheppard. They're very, very helpful. (He's an extraordinary artist...)

Especially, for me, Drawing the Living Figure... check it out sometime.

That's gonna be a problem for you. To learn to draw people, you need to draw people, not clothes. The easiest way to hide mistakes in anatomy, rather than learn how to correct them, is by drawing clothes over those mistakes--of course, this doesn't really work to more than the casual observer anyway. But you also won't see enough of the anatomy to learn how to not make those mistakes without looking at a nude subject.

Nudity is not something to hide from or be ashamed of, at least in art. Don't go walking down the street naked, of course, but there are plenty of good drawing books that will feature photos of nude models, and any good drawing class will likewise have nude models to draw from. And it's not "dirty" or "porn" or "gay" to draw them. It's a necessary learning step.

Ah yes, anatomy is really helpful... If you are very serious about your drawing, I would recommend getting a few good books on anatomy for artists, and learning the anatomy of the body. (Especially the muscles. It would be good if you studied the way the muscles are on males compared to the muscles on females.)

In general, men have greater muscle mass than women. Women are more smooth, and their muscles are generally not very defined. Also, men have broad shoulders, and their hips are about as wide as where their torso meets their armpits. Women have smaller, daintier shoulders- and their hips are wider than their shoulders.

How the neck appears is quite important in defining the gender of a character... I would advise, at least, studying the differences.

The face... the face of a man generally has a strong-ish jaw line, and a more protruding nose than a female. The cheekbones may be more visible, and the brow and eyebrows less dainty.

That's all I have to say, for the moment...

Eyes?

Well... depends on the style you draw in. If you want to draw manga-ish... male eyes are generally smaller and less shiny than female eyes, and the 'manly' figures don't have very much of eyelashes. (But we really don't need to stick to such stereotypes...)

...

Actually, if you want to know the truth, in real life, men often have longer eyelashes than women. And... men's eyes tend to appear more sad... I'm not sure how to describe it. They're more square-ish I suppose, but still have curves. Not as tender or curved as women's eyes.

I think you'd have to study the differences in order to create convincingly masculine eyes, however. You can't really understand it that well with me saying it, because of the intricacies of the eyes/ eyelids. I think... men's eyes seem more sunken than women's eyes because of their brow, but I'm not sure...
