She felt as if she’d seen this man before. Not only seen, but interacted, personally met. But it couldn’t be. She’d never seen a man like this at the orphanage. She couldn’t remember anybody like him before. She squeezed her eyes shut to concentrate. “One of you Eliana?” a gruff voice boomed. Eliana slowly lifted an eyelid to reveal the man standing just in front of their table. He glared at her through his sunglasses. The stern gaze forced her shrinking into her chair. “Are you deaf? I asked a question, I’d like it to be answered,” he demanded, his voice as cold as ice. “And just where did you get the name?” Julie retorted, doing what she did best: talking for people. The man shifted is glare to her. “I asked. Any other questions?” he sneered. “Why do you even care?” He didn’t seem to even hear the question. Instead of answering, he seemed to study Julie intently. She fidgeted uncomfortably, for even she couldn’t keep a steady posture when this man stared at her. “You’re most likely not her, then,” he commented under his breath. “Too bold. But they did say she was going to be in here…” He turned to Eliana. “So you must be her. Am I right?” Eliana was overcome by a sudden sense of déjà vu. Her head felt light and dizzy, but heavy at the same time. She felt like she’d gone through this before. Gone through this sort of thing, with this very man, trapped under his gaze…
