Dragon Daze
(used to be Vice-Versa) Ryan thinks he's a normal kid, but then his adoptive parents die and he's shipped off to live with a grandfather he's never met. And then there's his new high school, where no one is quite human. (Check archive for first chap)
Dragon Daze Chapter 1 part 2 (and Dylan the idiot)
Monday blues: Okay, P.E. was kinda funny, we played court ball, a cross between volleyball and tennis, and Dylan's team got his butt kicked despite his constant boasting. It was almost as funny as when Brashler pegged Dylan with a woofle ball and Dylan screamed like a girl. We're reading Romeo & Juliet in English and we're watch the movie Twister in science class. (That movie is awesome. xd ) all in all, not to bad a day. But tomorrow I have to take the Math WASL. crying

Tadah! Dragon Daze chapter 1 part two. Ryan arrives at his destination.
(This part's just a tad long. I couldn't figure out where to cut it off)

After a while, the broad, grassy fields changed to thick evergreen forests, signaling our approach toward the Cascade foothills. Houses became fewer and farther between as we drove towards the mountains. Slowly, we began to ascend, driving on a twisting, narrow road. I sincerely hoped that the teen next to me was a better driver than he looked. It took a lot of willpower to not look out the window. If I didn’t see the cliff, I could pretend that the car wasn’t teetering closer to the edge.

“How long have you been driving?” I asked cautiously.

“Hmm…? Oh, maybe a year. But I was the only one available. James had already left when I was told to go pick you up.” He answered, carefully navigating a sharp corner. It was lucky that no one else was on the road.

“What, only two people can drive where we’re going?” I laughed nervously.

There was a pause, then “No, there’s a couple others, but I was the only student who offered when they asked.”

Well, okay then. I wondered just what little town I was going to end up in when the ride was finally over. As far as I knew, there wasn’t much up this far in the mountains.
Again, I wished that I had been told more than simply “You’re going to live with your grandfather” but I didn’t have a lot of choice in the matter.

Suddenly, we pulled off the road onto a little dirt trail, the entrance of which was blocked by a large gate. That in of itself wasn’t unusual, logging companies often put gates over their logging trails to prevent people from getting in. But I had no clue why we had stopped. Had I actually gotten in a car with some weird physco planning to murder me out in the middle of nowhere?

My driver reached a hand into his pant pocket and my heart skipped a beat, but it was only a cell phone that emerged. I really had to start keeping a hold on my imagination.

The cell phone was flipped open, revealing a small keypad. He quickly typed something and sent it.

“Sorry, Ryan. I forgot to grab the gate key on the way out, but Simon should be here right quick.”

Nodding, I went back to staring out the window, this time at thick, tangled underbrush that pressed up right to the side of the car. I stuck my hand out, then pulled it back when there was a rustle. I thought I saw a flash of glowing orange, but then a tall man emerged.

“Must you do this every time, Tom?” He asked in an exasperated manner as he unlocked the gate.

“Heh, sorry Simon. Guess I was in a hurry,” my driver laughed and drove the car through the now open gate.

“Just remember to grab a key next time,” Simon closed and relocked the gate, then seemed to vanish back into the underbrush.

I shook myself a bit and concentrated on looking ahead. That guy had creeped me out.

The dirt road was fairly straight and well maintained, though it still didn’t appear to really go anywhere. We passed a small, wood building, and I gasped when I saw Simon wave out the window to us. He must have taken a really good shortcut to beat us.

Then the road turned and I lost sight of him. We were heading up again, and passing several turnoffs that looked like driveways. Eventually, Tom turned into one of the driveways, which came out into a wide yard. In the middle of the open space was a large, white house. It looked like one of the houses found
