The full moon is rising in the sky
watching the darkness fall without a sound
settling gently on the cooling ground
and she laughs at heaven's fading dyes
And I wonder why
why you say
that it had to be this way
and I wonder why
why she's so gay
watching the death of day
A flower's smiling at the sun
petals glowing in the fading light
as the day slips into the night
hidden stars come out one by one
And I wonder why
why you say
that it had to be this way
and I wonder why
why she's so gay
watching the death of day
A child is dancing by the sea
watching the waves crash to the shifting sands
the sun reflected in curling bands
as it lets the stars roam free
And I wonder why
why you say
that it had to be this way
and I wonder why
why she's so gay
watching the death of day
watching the death of day
