...one to go. This weekend anyway. I found out today that I can't take next weekend off entirely for my concerts - too many other people have already reservered their time off for those days. So, I'm rearranging my plans. Brief explanation of point/time off before continuing story.

At my weekend job, everyone gets 12 points which they can use to call off anytime, no penalty. Also no pay, but that's beside the point. These points are on a rolling 12-month plan, so they go off your record one year from the day you acquired it. You're allowed 12 points within a 12 month period, any more than that, and you're out of luck, and out of a job. I used up several last summer trying to work the full three-day weekend shift. So, I'm currently at 11 points, with the next one not due to come off until sometime in June, I believe. Your vacation hours are based on the average number of hours you worked the year before, and can be used anytime, with supervisor approval, assuming the total number of people allowed to take off haven't already claimed their time off for that day. I currently get 40 vacation hours.

Ok, continuing. So, I have two big choir concert weekends this spring. One is next weekend, with concerts Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Seeing as I have to be at work at 6 am, I was going to take the weekend off and not worry about trying to be at work at 6 after getting out of a concert probably close to 11. With an hour drive home, and a half hour drive to work in the morning. I was also wanting to take off for my May concert, get a partial day off for my Sunday before the concert rehearsal, and also take off a day to go see a renaisance festival done at a college that by brother is involved with. It was going to work like this: 24 hours used to take off next weekend. 12 (36 total) to take off the day of my brother's fair. 4 (all 40 now used) to take off for my Sunday afternoon concert. I would have then used my last point (which can work for two consecutive shifts - both shifts off count as one point. Kinda handy at times. xd ) to take off the weekend of my May concert. But, that plan no longer works. So, new plan!

Use 4 hours to come in late both Saturday and Sunday next weekend, making it slightly easier to get there on time after concert. Plus I get shorter days out of the deal *grins* 12 (16 total now) hours split probably 8 and 4 for my brother's fair, and my sunday rehearsal, respectively. 24 (all 40 now used) hours used to take off the weekend of my May concert. This should work, plus I get to keep my one available point just in case! I really must be more careful about using (or rather, not using) them this summer, and that way I'd have some available in the fall should I have more concerts or other things I need to take off for.
