Just watched it for the first time. A little late I know. It was on cable. Good movie. Really has a lot to say a lot about love. And I loved the fact that it had a nice sad ending. You don't see many of those in a major blockbuster. It was a bit of a relief.
My story summary: Writer falls in love with prostitute. Prostitute is sold to Duke in exchange for funding to a play. Writer makes play about himself and Prostitute. Prostitute starts dieing. Duke finds out that the writer and prostitute are in love and forbids it. Writer and Prostitute plan to run away. Prostitute learns she's dieing so lies to writer to protect him. Writer is heartbroken. Duke trys to kill writer on opening night. Evil plot fails and Writer reconciles with prostitute in the middle of the play. Play ends prostitute dies. Writer...writes about it. The end.
Sure my summary's a bit oversimplified but if I tried to explain everything I might explode. Well...not physically but perhaps mentally.
