So... I've been thinking a lot lately about movies that I haven't seen in a while. I was talking with a friend (The_White_Rider, actually) when "An American Tail" came up. It's been FOREVER since I've seen any of those movies!! I really used to love them... I mean, come on, who doesn't love migrant mice? I'm going to try to get Mr. Evers to let us watch it in European history... It totally works! It'll teach us about the impact of autocratic Russia on... talking mice. sweatdrop
Another one that came up while studying European history, Anastasia. Thinking back on it... I suppose it wasn't very good, but I still want to see it again. I have a feeling that if I don't hate it for the horrible story telling and cheesy characters (it is a kids movie, after all) I'll hate it because it's not true to the real story, just like I hate Disney's Hercules. Then again, if they did make it true to the story it would be something like, "And they were all killed, even Anastasia. THE END!"
Now, on to new movies. First off, I saw a... thing on SciFi the other day, I think it was a cheesy series that was then turned into a cheesy movie, called... DINOTOPIA!! Yeah, it was... A cheesy movie about a land full of dinosaurs. For what it was (a cheesy dinosaur movie) it was actually pretty good, story wise. Of course the special effects caused much guffawing... And the "Sun-stones" hurt my eyes!
Right now, (Yeah, this very moment) I'm watching "Volcano"... And laughing. If a volcano really did erupt in the middle of down town LA the fire department wouldn't be sticking around to put out the fires caused by the spewing lava and flaming bits of earth falling from the sky... They'd have evacuated with the rest of the city!! I know I'd be high-tailing it!
... OMG!! A river of lava!! I NEVER expected THAT to come out of a volcano!! What kind of messed up volcano is this, anyway!? I never ordered any lava! rolleyes Oh no! The lava river is in your way, now what're you going to do? Oh, jump over it, why didn't I think of that? ... And the fire fighters are STILL THERE!? eek
Oh no... Now I'm actually getting into this movie! There's an ADORABLE little doggy stuck in a flaming house... sad Aw! He's barking at the lava! That's so cute... and stupid! cry He grabbed his bone!! Come on, you stupid movie, you know the cute little doggy never dies!! crying ... OH! *few* He got out and back to his adorable old lady owner! That was a close one. sweatdrop
*About an hour later* Oh alright, I guess I have to admit it... I did kind of enjoy that movie. It was full of down-home characters who rise up and do heroic things in the face of a crisis. Like that public worker guy! crying He was so cool! He sacrificed himself to save the life of the driver of a subway train that was being consumed by lava! And they showed his whole death scene... He was screaming and flailing as he was slowly incinerated... It was really scary. sweatdrop The end of the movie had an interesting moral about how we, as humans, are only able to put aside our petty differences when we absolutely have to in order to survive... And putting aside those differences is the only way we will be able to save ourselves.
And herein lies why I'm glad that I don't live on a major fault line. 3nodding
