Also known as May Eve, May Day, and Walpurgis Night happens at the beginning of May. It celebrates the height of Spring and the flowering of life. The dance Maypole signifies their unity, the pole representing the God and the ribbon encompassing it the Goddess. Beltane is the festival of flowers, fertility, sensuality, and delight. Translated it means fire of Bel or bright fire. It takes place either on April 30th or May 1st.
Beltane is the last of the three spring fertility festivals and it is the second principal Celtic festival. It traditionally marked the arrival of summer in ancient times. During Beltane the Pleiades star cluster rises just before sunrise on the morning horizon. The Pleiades is a cluster of seven closely placed stars, the seven sisters, in the constellation of Taurus, near his shoulder.
Beltane, and its counterpart Samhain, divide the year into its two primary seasons: winter, representing the dark part, and summer, representing the light part. Beltane honors Life; it is the time when the sun is fully released from his bondage of winter and able to rule over summer and life once again.
It is a time of no time when the veils between the two worlds are at their thinnest. No time means that the two worlds intermingle and unite and the magic abounds. When the veils are so thin it is an extremely magical time, it is said that the Queen of the Faeries rides out on her whi8te horse. She will try to entice people away to the Faeryland. Legend has it if you sit beneath a tree on Beltane night, you may see the Faery Queen or hear the sound of her horse’s bells as she rides through the night. If you hide your face she will pass you by, but if you look at her, she may choose you.
The beginning of summer heralds an important time, for the winter is a difficult journey and weariness and disheartenment set in, personally one tired down to soul. Beltane marks that the winter’s journey has passed and summer has begun, it is festival of gaiety as it joyfully heralds the arrival of summer in her full garb. It marks the passage into the growing season, it signals a time when the bounty of the earth will once again be had. During this time of the year Bel fires will usually be lighten.
Well I didn't really know much about it but I wore some-what earth colors. Green, brown and beige. Then, since it symbolizes life, I started a new project around my house. I planted some roses and tulips with my mom. I thought it was a really great experience. I really had fun!!! I wished I had posted this on the first but I couldn't go online. Anyways, HAPPY LATE BELTANE!!! xp
