Chapter One
I've decided to write in my journal again... I've started this short
story about superheroes, and this is the beginning...

Chapter One

Desiree stared at her reflection in the mirror. She ran her fingers through her rusty red hair. As she released it her honey blonde highlights sprang back to their frizzy state. She sighed and looked down her entire body. Her pale, spindly arms hung still by her skinny, hipless body. Her long, skinny legs stretched down to small and narrow feet. As she worked her way back up her tall being, she noted sadly that she was still as flat-chested as usual. Desiree sighed heavily again. She was an unattractive freak, and her clothes didn’t help, either.

She snapped her fingers together. “D4C-O, let’s try another pattern.” Immediately her bodysuit started to ripple. In a matter of seconds, the black body suit had changed into a black miniskirt with a small red tee-shirt. Desiree grimaced. Her pale features were even more enhanced by the style. “Dee, you know I don’t like showing skin! C’mon! Try something else,” she whined. The body suit didn’t move. “D4C-O! Do it!”
she growled.

“I think you look nice,” a robotic voice said. “I’ll do as you say, however. Desiree grinned as the bodysuit rippled. She looked down at herself. Long blue jeans stretched down her legs. Bodysuit blue jeans made her look good. Shirts, however, were a bigger problem. She was so far from the norm with her skinny, hipless, flat features that even the smallest tee-shirt looked baggy on her. She groaned as she saw it, but she headed towards the window of her bedroom, deciding it would have to do. She leapt out her bedroom window and her hoverboard met her as she fell through the air. She grabbed onto the edges of it and squatted down, bracing herself for the impact of the cement below. She spun around as she descended to the floor below and came to a dead stop, sending a ripple through her muscles inches from the ground. Slowly, the hoverboard began to rise, and when she leaned forward slightly, it shot ahead. Her head bobbed to the music of her internal MP3 player as she rode her hoverboard over the booming city of Enova.

Hovering buildings loomed up in the sky, but Desiree paid no attention to them. She didn’t care about the sandy beaches she could see if she turned her head towards them, nor did the rolling green hills on her other side affect her. This was her home. She knew it all, and she took its beauty and youth for granted.

She made a turn around the city park, enjoying the sounds of the birds singing in the trees. Slowly she came to a stop and jumped off her board, remembering the days when she climbed trees and played in virtual sandboxes. She remembered learning that Enova was the only city on Earth that had trees at all. Her thoughts were broken up by the sound of a hoverboard squealing because of its speed. She looked up, wondering who it was. Before she could see, the hoverboard exploded. Desiree’s hand flew to her mouth as she gasped. She bolted towards it when she saw the body fall. It was quite a distance to cover, but she gritted her teeth and kept going as fast as she could. She slowed to a stop when she saw who it was. A Power. She swallowed hard, but that couldn’t keep her stopped long. She sprinted forward again and stopped in front of him. She breathed in sharply. He was none other than the top Power in Enova, the Tempest. She knelt down beside him, her hands trembling slightly. She reached out tentatively and touched his wrist, checking for a pulse. He was alive. She signaled to her hoverboard. “D4C-O, send an emergency alert to the HQ. One of their men is down.”

The bodysuit rippled its response. Desiree smiled slightly. She turned her attention back to the boy in front of her. She looked over him, searching for broken bones and humungous gashes. She grimaced as she saw the blood welling up from different areas of his body, staining his wrecked suit and giving off a putrid odor. Her nose wrinkled. His suit was torn, and she could see half of his face as well as his bronze hair. Bronze hair. Why did that ring a bell? Blood dribbled down from a gash on his forehead. She had to look away. "Why would he do that...? It takes a lot to kill a hoverboard." She went at terrifying speeds, but her board had never done much more than a hum. She turned her attention back to her ward when he groaned, regaining consciousness.

The Tempest blinked and stared at Desiree with a confused look in his eyes, his brows furrowed together. "What happened? Who...?" Desiree put a finger to his lips as gently as she could.

"Maybe you shouldn't talk," she murmured. "You overheated your hoverboard, so you crashed. I'm Desiree, and I'm fifteen. I belong to the Blue Sect." She could faintly hear the siren as the HQ came to retrieve their Power. "They're coming for you, now. Bye."

The Tempest's arm slowly reached out and grasped her wrist, holding her back. "Why don't you stay?"

Desiree pulled her hand back. "Because I don't want to be accused of assaulting a Power, and I don't want to have my memory erased because I have possibly discovered the identity of a Power. I wanna remember. And I want you to remember me. In case I become a damsel in distress, you know?" She grinned. "Bye." She backed off and jumped onto her hoverboard. She turned around and zipped off. As soon as she was just out of sight of the Tempest, she stopped her board and jumped off. She scrambled up a nearby tree and poised herself to watch him. The HQ's ambulance hovered nearby him, and a couple men jumped out with a hoverstretcher. Desiree started to climb back down as he disappeared into the ambulance. "Remember me," she murmured, and hopped onto the board.
