1st Round:
I went up against a guy using random deck that uses equips to beef up his monsters. He stalled for a few turns during the match with Penguin Soldier but I eventually won.
2 Win/0 Loss/0 Tie
2nd Round:
This guy is using a Exodia deck with about 45-50 cards. I've gotten a glimpse of his deck while he was playing before the tournament started. He gotten Exodia twice in a row through top decking. In my match with him, I made sure to shuffle thoroughly just in case he was stacking. Through out the entire match, he made numerous errors. He could've gotten rid of some of my monsters with Trap Hole but forgot to use it like when I summoned my Breaker. I lost some Life Points due to annoying defenders in the first game but I got rid of them with by using them as Tribute fodder with Brain Control and Soul Exchange to bring out Thestalos. I decimated his hand for three turns and hitting directly. Second game, I dominated with no loss to my Life Points.
4 Win/0 Loss/0 Tie
3rd Round:
Once again, I went up against another random deck. This time though, the match went through quickly and I swept my opponent.
6 Win/0 Loss/0 Tie
4th Round:
I'm up against an old friend. It's been a long time since we faced each other in a tournament and I was fully aware of his skill as a duelist. Before the tournament, we both did some practice matches. His deck was aggro with Gravekeeper Spys, Zaborg the Thunder Monarchs and Cyber Dragons. In game 1 of our match, we were doing 1/1 trade-offs until we started top decking. Eventually, I was able to establish field presence to bring his Life Points to 0. Second game was quick. I got a less than mediocre hand and he established field presence quickly and overran me with GK Spys and Zaborg. After the second game we both started using our side decks. I sided out 1 Soul Exchange, 2 Apprentice Magicians, Swords of Revealing Light, Magician of Faith and Old Vindictive Magician. I sided in 1 Smashing Ground, 2 Fissures, 2 Exiled Force, 1 Mystic Swordsman LV2, and 1 Reinforcements of the Army. My friend sided 5-6 cards and then we started our tie-breaker. This game was similar to our first as we were doing 1/1 trade-offs and ending up top-decking again. Rather surprisingly, I was top-decking my Soul Exchanges and used them for Thestalos to get rid of D.D. Warrior Lady and Magician of Faith and he lost Heavy Storm and Premature Burial in two turns. I was at 3800 LP and he was at 4400. On his turn he Special Summoned Cyber Dragon in face-up defense, set a monster and a card in his back row. My next turn I drew Graceful Charity. I activated it and drew Heavy Storm, Asura Priest and Torrential Tribute. I kept Heavy and Asura and discarded Torrential and Swords. I activated Heavy destroying his Mirror Force, Normal Summoned Asura. My Asura destroyed his Cyber Dragon and Treeborn and my two Thestalos attacked for game.
8 Win/1 Loss/0 Tie
Final Round:
It was a mirror match with me against the winner of the 12 and below division. First game I established field presence and won with over 5000 LP. Second game I had bad starting hand. He took me out quick with two Zaborgs that he summoned by Tributing Treeborn. In the tie-breaker, it was a long game. I had a mediocre starting hand once again. We did 1/1 trade-offs for a few turns until we started top-decking. I was at 1400 and he was at 5500. We both had a field with 3+ monsters. I finally drew into Zaborg and Granmarg to get rid of my monsters. I top-decked 3 Soul Exchanges in a row.
9 Win/2 Loss/0 Tie
I was disappointed that I lost but I was satisfied with my performance and reached the finals. I haven't done this well in a long time so it was refreshing. I split my prize with my friend and we didn't get anything worth while. The 12 yr. old kid won a box of his choice and he chosen Ancient Sanctuary. He was hoping for Zaborgs and Enemy Controller. His best pulls were only The End of Anubis and Emissary of the Afterlife. He was irritated and angry that he didn't get any Zaborgs or Enemy Controllers. That makes that loss to him not that bad. I pulled a Majestic Mech - Goryu in a EOJ booster I bought later.
