A Teacher that has inspired my life.
A Teacher that has inspired me in my life:
I devoted this section of my about to Mr. Mata, my 9th grade Teen Leadership professor. At first I thought he was a little strange, because he was different from all of my other teachers. He was full of life and happiness. I had never seen someone that loved everyone so much. I thought he was a Hippie, but as the year went by - I learned to love and care about people myself. I always thought there was so little to the world. It's only about the economy going in the gutter, and the presidents sucking, and the only life on Earth is temporary so what difference would it make?
He taught me not only that everyone has more in common than we all think, but he taught me that you have to give love to receive love. He taught me that if you have to enjoy something, to enjoy the presence of that something.
You know, one day specifically. One conversation changed my life and who I was forever:
(Reg. Bell rings and dismisses me for next class, I'm in the hallway).
Mr. Mata: "Hey Sam, How has your day been so far?"
Me: "It's freezing cold outside, and it's raining, nothing is going right, my homework got wet".
Mr. Mata: "Well, the homework had to come from somewhere right?"
Me: "What?"
Mr. Mata: "The paper that your homework was on had come from a tree. Which that tree needed rain, and you to survive. Sam sometimes the factors that create something, can destroy it as well. But it always re-creates itself in the end".
Me: "So your saying not to care if my homework is ruined?"
Mr. Mata: "Not exactly, I'll go down with you to get you another homework paper. But the reason you have homework, is because of days like these. The ones you don't appreciate".
Me: "I hate the cold".
Mr. Mata: "Well Sam, let me tell you something. You've noticed that on days with any weather..There's always people who like it, and there's always people who don't right?"
Me: "Uhh...Yeah. Why?"
Mr. Mata: "Well, the people who don't appreciate the weather are the people who have a bad day. And the people who do appreciate it..Have a happier day".
Me: "So your saying that if I like how life and nature is for the time being, I'll be a happier person?"
Mr. Mata: "Exactly Sam. Everything is linked together. Time may seem short, but if you try to make it worthwhile - You will see that time grows to be longer and happier".
Me: o.o;; "But I'm only one person, what does it matter if I'm happy?"
Mr. Mata:Well Sam, the people who don't appreciate life aren't very happy people. And the people that aren't very happy don't make anyone else happy. But the people who are happy make other people happy. Do you understand?".
Me: "Ohh, so if I'm happy, then I'll make more people appreciate life".
Mr. Mata: "Yes".
(Tardy Bell Rings)
Me: "Oh, crap".
Mr. Mata: "Don't worry about it, I'll write you a pass and go with you to get your homework".
