umm...?

F'urea Anyuo- Dear child
Meiha- Mommy
Dali'quina- Destiny

The rain was just a soft drizzle on the strong castle roof, but on this dark day it sounded as if a hundred angry Gods were hurling their wrath upon the wretched earth, drowning indiscriminately the good with the bad, the baby with the man.
Queen Clara paced back and forth with her fingers pressed to her temples, trying to see what was to come with her Trynidean talent of foresight. She shook her head angrily and glared at the roof, at the pitter-patter of rain on this sorrowful day.

"Mama.." The queen looked down at her five-year-old daughter, Ilia, as she pulled gently on her mothers dress. She leaned down and scooped up the child, who pressed her face into her mothers warm chest.

"F'urea Anyuo, how I wish you did not have to see this day." She kissed her child's head and whispered to her in the ancient language of her ancestors, a language that scarcely anyone outside the royal family knew these days.
Queen Clara wondered down the large, extravagantly decorated hallway and pushed the door to the nursery open. Her beautiful silver-haired babies were sitting on the cotton-soft carpet playing with each others toes and giggling. The care-free sound made a lump form in Clara's throat.

"Meiha, what's the matter?" Ilia pressed her small hand against her mothers suddenly wet cheek and brushed the tear away. Clara swallowed the lump in her throat and shook her head at the child. How could she tell her that one way or the other, she would loose her beloved baby brother?

"Stay with them, please." She set Ilia gently on her feet and left the nursury to go find Peter. He was sprawled out on the couch in the observatory, his eyes closed, baring a peaceful expression, but Clara knew better than to believe he was sleeping. She lowered herself onto the blue chair next to the couch and prepared to wait out her sons momentary distraction. After two minutes his eyelids fluttered and he sat up, dazed.

"He will come tonight," Peter mumbled. He looked to his mother now with a look of desperation.

"There must be a way to keep him safe from this man!"

"I don't know. I cannot see it."

"Concentrate. It is his Dali'quina, there MUST be another way."

Clara sighed and lay her head back against the chair. She closed her eyes and concentrated on tonight's events, but only saw the same situation. The man with the green skin would come to kill her baby, and there was nothing she could do about it. Unless...

What if she took him somewhere safe?

It's true, her baby will not survive if she attempts to protect him and raise him in Trinidi with his family, but there must be somewhere that he can grow up that will leave him out of harm.

With this new revelation, Clara's mind opened up and her visions became more powerful, more consuming. She saw it now, the beautiful, peaceful field that led to a small forest village, set off to the side of the field. The children who were probably many years older than her, although she had just turned seventy this year. Her people did not age the way most humans did. She saw the beautiful green-haired girl, smiling and expectant, her baby in this child's arms.

"There is a way!" Clara jumped off the chair, startling her restless son.

"What?"

"Pack me a bag with food and blankets. I need to take him far away from here, in the care of another. He will be safe there." She rushed from the room and headed hastily to the nursery. As she placed her hand on the doorknob her son spun her around.

"Mother, that will mean that he cannot come back here. We will never see him again, correct?" Clara stroked her sons face gently.

"Yes, my son. It is the price we must pay to keep him safe." With that, Clara entered the room and picked up her babies, one in each arm. Dee smiled up at his mother with his usual playful expression. Looking at Link, she saw the expression that, for once in his short life, she did not resent seeing him wear. Link had always been a serious child, that which Clara detested. She wanted him to be a child. Now, this intense gaze seemed fitting, considering that Link would need to grow up very fast.

"Come with me, Ilia. I need you to hold the babies." Peter was already preparing the saddle with the small pack he had prepared when Clara and Ilia emerged, holding one child in each hand. Peter kissed the foreheads of his one-year-old brother and hugged him tight, knowing he may never see him again.

"Do not cry, Peter," Clara whispered. The teenager reached up to wipe the tears he had unknowingly shed. "This is not the end. Link's story has only just begun. I have no doubt that we will hear of him again someday." She pulled her daughter up onto her favorite stallion and, hoisting her beloved babies into Ilia's capable arms, flung her graceful body up. With a determined glance back to the castle she kicked off, refusing to look back.

The wind rushed passed her cheeks as Clara held tight to the reigns and her three children in front of her. The forbidden forest was, as always, very dark, as small creatures scurried out of the way of the determined horse. The trees groaned from old age, growing roots, and fear. There has not been a rider in the forbidden forest since Clara's ancestors rode here over a thousand years ago.

The queen knew she was close when a faint glint of blue sky appeared at the end of the forest. The trip had taken almost all night and the sun would be up shortly. The horse, sensing Clara's growing tension, picked up her pace and whirled through the forest with incomprehendable speed. Ilia stroked her beautiful mane.

"Thank you, Kasey," She muttered into the horses ear.

The scenery was so familiar that Clara felt like she had been here before, but of course it was only from her village. The field stretched out with rich grass and flowers blooming perfectly. This had long ago been the homes of her ancestors for many years, until they had been forced to flee. She stared down and Link, at his pointed ears and lovely complexion. He would very soon look just like any other Hylian, after his markings faded and his hair changed.

She saw, off to the far end of the field, the opening that called to her, to her child's safety. Without slowing, Kasey rushed into the tree-like entrance and came to a halt inside the tiny village. Two boys, staring wide-eyed at these strangers, ran into the house behind them. Within seconds six children emerged from the house. As Clara jumped down from her horse a crowd form out from. She pulled Link into her arms and, after a quick hug, turned her gaze on the crowd, searching for the girl.

Saria, having heard of the strangers who entered her village, walked out of her house and pushed to the front of the crowd. Unlike her wide-eyed kin, she did not show any surprise at the first sight of these odd creatures. After all, it was not the first time she layed eyes on them. She had been dreaming of this day for almost three months.

Queen Clara twisted around, her silver hair glittering in the faint sunrise, her sun-yellow eyes searching the small gathering for Saria. Saria knew this day would come, when she would accept this woman's child as her own, raise him with her people. She stepped out and bounded forward. Clara stopped not two feet from her and knelt on the ground, her pale green dress glowing next to the deep green grass.

"Your Highness..." Saria bowed slightly and, for a split second, could not help but eye the unique markings on this beautiful woman's skin. Oddly shaped white, gray and pale blue symbols covered random points in her skin, looking as if they had been painted on, but also as though they had been there since birth. She looked to the small child in her arms and noticed that he, too, had these marking lining his almost white skin.

"Saria...You know what it is I have come to ask?"

"Yes, my Lady. I have seen it many time. He will be safe with me, I can promise you this much."

"Thank you. That is all I can ask of you." She kissed her babies head one last time and handed him to Saria. Cradling the small boy, she had a starling realization.

"The markings...He will be too easy to recognize! If someone should come looking for him-"

"The markings will fade with time. He has not been with his own kind long enough for them to be permanent. His hair, too, will change. It will be bright yellow, the color of my eyes. She smiled sadly. "Take care of him."

"You have my word." Clara stood and wondered to her horse, climbing on and hugging her sobbing daughter. Something caught her eye that she did not expect, nor want. Her other baby was looking at her with a subdued expression that he had never worn before. She had a feeling that he would not smile much from this day on.

"Oh, Diety." She took one more look at her son before turning the horse and rushing away.

Saria wondered if Link would remember his true family. She realized, with a sigh, that his hair had already begun changing. The roots shifted to a faint blonde color. It would only be a matter of time before his whole head would turn bright blonde. His markings would fade, and he would not remember anything.

Saria would make sure to remind him some day.
