Okay, here's the short and skinny (which, BTW, Harry is). He was born July 31st to James and Lily Potter. He survived an attack by Lord Voldemort, leaving only a lightning bolt scar on his forehead. He then was taken to the Dursleys, who tried to keep him as down-trodden as possible, putting him in the cupboard under the stairs.
When he was 11, Hagrid came to take him to Hogwarts. Harry was an instant celebrity. He was never really comfortable with this attention. He became close friends with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
Harry become a Seeker for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. He has thusfar only lost one match, in his third year, when Dementor came to the game.
The focus on many attacks, Harry is enemy #1 to the Death Eaters. In 1994, he was used in the ressurrection of Lord Voldemort. No one knows what fate awaits our young hero. The only thing we do know is it's going to be a bumpy ride.
