As a short intro, i felt like making a review site for the manga i read so i can kind of keep track of what i like and don't. I'm lame, sue me.

Death Note centers around Japanese guardians of death called shinigami. These show up in a variety of other manga, including Descendants of Death and Full Moon. Although the shinigami are much more friendly in the other manga, in Death Note, they are drawn more like monsters, with wings, sharp teeth, horns, etc.
According to the storyline of Death Note, the shinigami write the names of their human victims in a notebook they carry around with them. They can set the method of death if they want to, but if they do not, the victim dies of a heart attack.
One shinigami leaves his notebook in the human world with the intention of it being found. Anyone can use the notebook, and once a human touches it, he can see the shinigami it belongs to. A boy named Light finds it and quickly discovers it purpose, killing criminals to better the world.
The story is one i haven't really seen before, and i would best describe it as a horror mystery. Both Light and his rival L try to best each other, and although we know how everything has transpired, the characters themselves do not know what the other side is doing. Seeing them work through the other's thought processes logically does add to the story, but sometimes it goes on a little long and gets, well, boring.
All in all, this is one of my favorite books, and i'd suggest it to anyone who likes horror or twists on old ideas. Plus, $7.99 is cheap for a manga, and i'm cheap. ^^
