Memoirs
Introduction: Let me introduce myself: I am Laceris Ebony Omega Siris, I know it is quite a mouthful. I am a half-breed. My mother was an Aurian noble woman by the name of Omega Lutia, from the house of Ebony Court.
My father, well he is not what you would consider the best father figure. Sari Siris is a man shrouded in mystery. He is a man without country, without home.
Soon after I was born he did what he does best. He disappeared. Not long after that my mother died, and I was sent away from Auria.
These are my memoirs, I will attempt to discover all of the secrets and stories of my past.
~~~ The Beginning
My mother was born into a betrothal that had been made years before. She was set to marry a man, Alpha Rionn of Flare Court, a noble from the powerful Tamesis Citadel. Tamesis... well that country is... dark. A clan of Vampires created the gothic empire centuries before, and they quickly became a powerful nation.
The Aurian High Council believed that unity with Tamesis would strengthen Auria. The Tamesis Lords believed the same. A prophet spoke of two children from the union that would share a connection so great, the world had never seen before. ‘The Children of Legend’.
The betrothal was created when Rionn was just a young boy. The High Chancellor even declared that my mother's given name would be Omega, to signify Rionn's 'ownership' with the bonded names. It seemed archaic to me, but that is the way of Auria.
When my mother was a young girl, she first met Rionn. She was a timid girl, and he was rather stoic. Despite this, two form a tenuous friendship, which the High Council and Temesis Lords felt was favorable.
And then, well... My father happened...
My father... I do not know much about him. He left my life early, and I have only met him a handful of times since. Sari Siris was -I mean is a strong, capable man. He is only a vague image in my mind, but what I can remember will stay with me forever...
He always seemed so tall, towering over my small framed mother, the opposite of her in every way. While she was everything light, my father was dark. His eyes a deep amber, his hair the darkest black. Aurian's are typically small, with silvery hair and pale blue eyes; my Grandmere told me once that my father's dark looks are what first drew my mother's gaze.
My mother believed my father was beneath her, and rightfully so by Aurian custom. ‘Outsiders’ are not welcome, Aurian’s are extremely proud people. Their blood is believed to be the purest, and typically do not form allegiances outside of the race. Soon, though, he disarmed my mother's frosty shell, and claimed her heart. He has that affect on people, he is able to charm and talk ‘sweet nothings’ very well. They rendevuezed in secrecy, and soon married. The couple made plans to escape the harsh laws and Aurian customs. This way they could be free to be together, without being shunned by her people.
Their plans were shattered when my mother became pregnant. She feared leaving her home country with a child, because she would be exiled. She wanted my Grandmere to know her grandchild. She hoped that I would be offered my birth rights. She was wrong.
They kept the pregnancy a secret for as long as possible. Grandmere held strong, and stayed by my mother’s side. When I was born, the High Council found out about my mother’s discrepancy. They were enraged that my mother dared to go against her betrothal.
The fact that I had my father’s traits and looked nothing like an Aurian was further proof. They believed that I was a cursed upon the country, a stain of impure Aurian blood. My mother and father were the root. The High Chancellor tried to force them apart, but my parents stood their ground. For the first time she stood against her people. Happiness did not prevail for long.
The High Council debated on how to inform the Tamesis Lords and Rionn of the betrayal. They secluded themselves and deliberated for many months. They had to act soon though, if they were to salvage the betrothal...
For reasons currently unknown, my father left Auria shortly after my first birthday; my mother believed that he had abandoned us. She was devastated, and lost all of her will to fight. The High Council forced her to annul the marriage. That only saddened my mother more, but she complied.
After my father left, and my mother's marriage annulled the High Council decided to do 'damage control'. The High Chancellor met with a Tamesis Lord and the two tried to concoct a story to explain my existence to Rionn. My mother refused to lie, however. Above all her allegiance was to her child.
She sent word to Rionn that she needed to meet with him, he came to Auria. My mother told Rionn the truth, and that she didn't expect him to forgive her. She told him about me, and my... unique genes. Rionn was a kind man though. He forgave my mother's transgressions and agreed to marry her, claiming that he knew she was pure at heart. Rionn wanted her to be his children's mother, and a father to me. It would take me years to realize the depth of his compassion and loyalty.
The Tamesis Lords and Aurian High Council were relieved to realize the betrothal stood, and marriage preparations began. It was to be a grand affair.
Rionn was kind to me, despite him not being my blood father. He treated me as his own, and never once looked at me as less than whole.
He loved my mother and I think I sensed that. My mother loved him as well, but Grandmere told me that she still loved my father too. Even though he abandoned us. They were happy, and I was too.
When I was two, my brother was born. While I was born with an orange flame shaped birthmark on my left arm, he had a black mark that seemed to be in the shape of a tree on his right. It baffled the prophets, but we were declared to be the ‘Children of Legend’, with the birthmarks as proof.
My brother was named Grim Flare Alpha Rionn, to my Laceris Ebony Omega Siris after our houses and our parents. My mother kept my surname as my father's, she said I was his image. As a child, that was difficult for me. I considered Rionn to be my father, as I have never met the man who sired me. However, my mother stayed loyal to Sari.
Grim looked like his father. Dark gray eyes, vampiric canines, dark hair. This became another stain to my mother’s reputation. Other Aurian's snickered at my mother for producing unAurian-like offspring. The people believed that my mother’s Aurian blood should have prevailed and been the dominant gene. This was not the case, and the people believed she had tainted blood. She turned the other cheek and loved us completely. She never quite smiled, though.
It seemed that she was always sad under her happiness...
Mother soon ailed. She got weaker and weaker. It seemed that her light was... fading. When I was four, and Grim two, mother died. Years later, Grandmere told me that Mother's heart just couldn't live without my father anymore. That angered me, because he left us and she still died for him. She left us for him.
Before she died, Mother left me with a message. I have carried it in my heart since she spoke the soft words. "My Laceris, you mast always look after your brother, yourself and those you cherish. You must always remember your dear Mother, your noble Grandmere, your loving Rionn, your little Grim; and of course, your sweet, sweet father. If ever you are to leave this place, know those who love you, and those who hold contempt. Search for your father when you feel you need him, he will always be out there. Though he left, he never abandoned us, and he was always here. Until the after we meet, rest my darling girl..." I was confused as to what she meant about my father, but grief overcame every other emotion. Even at my tender years, I knew she was gone forever. Life was changed irrevocably after that...
