First and foremost, I have to say... happy birthday, Gerard Way!!! whee Now that that's out of my system... I present to you the last scene of my fic! Try not to cry... No really, don't cry. The ending... well, let's just say it'll most likely surprise you.
* * *
There were so many of them. Vampires, young and old, male and female, were circling around them, some excited just to see such a spectacle, others anticipant, thirsting for blood and flesh. Their eyes burned into Liana's with a ferocious intensity, and she did her best to meet their glares with one just as fierce.
She and Gerard were tied to a wooden post in the center of the vampire's clearing. Bert had gathered the entire vampire community to watch them meet their fate. Liana was scared, of course she was scared, but she wasn't willing to simply stand there and let Bert kill her. But as long as she was tied up, with Jeph, Quinn, and Branden standing guard, there really wasn't much she could do.
Bert cleared his throat loudly, and the murmurings of the vampires settled. "Fellow creatures of the night!" Bert called, and the vampires responded with applause that made Liana sick to her stomach. "Here you see someone you trusted, someone you accepted as one of your own, about to be put to death. Why, you ask?" Here he paused, allowing the crowd to mutter amongst themselves before continuing. "He is here because he has turned his back on us. He is here because he decided that humans..." this he said with a sneer, "...are more worthy of his time than we are. He is here because he became involved with a human girl..." he gestured at Liana, still with that disgusting sneer, "...and now... well, I think you've heard enough."
They most certainly had. The surrounding vampires were besides themselves with anger, and the resulting murmurs were enough to make Liana faint on the spot. But she wouldn't give them the satisfaction.
Bert strode over to Liana, and cupped her chin in his hand. She jerked her head away, but he grabbed her chin and turned her face towards him. In the corner of her eye, Liana could see Gerard struggling with his bindings, and she winced as Jeph struck him to silence him.
Bert again addressed the assembled nightwalkers. "But I have to say, Gerard here has pretty good taste. It so happens that I myself tried this one out." The vampires responded with catcalls and snickers. Gerard, who had guessed as much, merely shot venomous looks at Bert, who was holding up his hand for silence. "Yes, it's true. And what's more, I think I got to her even before Gerard did. And she wasn't bad at all." He paused here, and glanced around at the vampires. "I wonder... does anyone here want to have her before we dispose of her?"
To Liana's immense horror, Frank, the vampire who had attempted to take advantage of her before, stepped forward. "Finally..." he said softly, his lustful eyes gleaming.
"It looks like a yes to me!" Bert said jovially, delighting in the aghast look that Liana was sporting. He glanced over at Gerard, and his grin widened. "Frank," he said, still looking at Gerard. "You wouldn't mind doing it here, would you? I think Gerard wants to watch..."
Gerard began his struggling anew, and the venomous glare in his eyes darkened. Jeph attempted to hit him again, but it didn?t seem to have any effect on the rage-filled Gerard.
Bert laughed mirthlessly. "So, Frank? How about it?"
"Fine by me," said Frank, who had made his way over to Liana and was now stroking her cheek. "As long as I can have her, I don't care where I am."
The jeers from the crowd grew louder as Frank pressed his lips onto Liana's. Liana tossed and turned her head, doing whatever she could to fight him off, but being tied up was preventing her. Frank grabbed her face roughly and forced her to look into his eyes. She squeezed them closed, determined not to let Frank bewitch her as he had the last time. But then...
Then Frank's grip on her face slackened. Liana didn't dare to open her eyes as he completely let go of her. The crowd suddenly fell silent, and Liana felt something soft and heavy land at her feet. She opened her eyes to see Frank lying dead before her, with a silver bullet in his back.
"It's the humans! Run!"
Pandemonium ensued as silver bullets came flying through the clearing, and the vampires began to scatter. Liana turned to look at Gerard, who mouthed the word raid.
A tall figure with glasses burst through the crowd. Mikey ran over to the posts to which Liana and Gerard were tied, and cut their bindings with a small knife. "You deserve a fighting chance right now," he whispered.
Liana threw her arms around Mikey and hugged him briefly. When she let go, Mikey slumped down to the ground. He too, had been shot.
Gerard grabbed Liana's hand. "Come on," he said. "We have to get out of here, now."
"He... saved us..." Liana whispered, allowing herself to be pulled away. "That's the second time he saved my life now. He led me to you the first time, and now he's saved the both of us."
"I know him," Gerard said breathlessly, as they were now weaving their way through the panicked crowd. "Or rather, I knew him. He was a nice guy."
"He was in Bert's house when I first met him."
"Still, he was a nice guy."
They stopped talking then, as there was no way they'd be able to hear each other over the screams of the vampires that were falling around them. It seemed like the humans had brought an infinite amount of guns loaded with those silver bullets.
Suddenly, Gerard's grip loosened in Liana's hand. She gripped it tighter, but that didn't stop Gerard from falling to his knees. She knelt down as well, and Gerard slumped to the ground. Liana could see the glimmer of silver between his shoulder blades.
"No..." she whispered, her eyes blurring.
Gerard let go of Liana's hand, and smiled dimly. "Liana..." he breathed. "Go on... without me..."
Liana shook her head. "Don't be an idiot," she said, doing her best to return his smile. "There's no way in hell I'm leaving you here. I'll end my days with you in a hail of bullets."
She could tell that breathing was becoming harder for him. She picked up his hand and kissed it gently. "I won't let you die alone. I mean this, forever."
A sudden sharp pain emerged in Liana's back. She was a sitting duck in a clearing where bullets were flying haphazardly. She knew she was going to die.
Liana rested her head on Gerard's chest. "We're not alone anymore," she whispered. "We have each other now. We don't need anyone else."
A faint smile passed Gerard's lips, but it was marred by the trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth. "You're right..." he said softly. "And we can die here together. We have everything we've always wanted... right?"
Liana kissed Gerard's lips softly. "Right," she breathed; for the last time.
* * *
The hunters carefully stepped over the fallen bodies, admiring their work. They had never done such a clean job before.
"Thank God for them bullets, eh?" one of them said. "They never saw it coming."
The other one chuckled. "Damn right," he answered. He stopped in front of a pair of corpses, and sighed. "s**t," he muttered. "I think these two were human."
His comrade came over to where he was standing. He looked down at the two bodies. "You know, I think you're right," he said sadly. "Shame, in'nit?"
The other one nodded. He knelt down to examine the corpses. They were a male and female, and the girl was lying across the man's chest. Their fingers were entwined. Their faces both bore smiles.

My goodness! We are nearing the climax of my little story here. That's right; after this, there's only one scene left. Excited? You should be. But of course, you realize that I'm gonna make you wait a long time for the last one. XD I'll shut up and let you read now.
* * *
Liana awoke wrapped in Gerard's arms. Gerard was still asleep, his chin resting on her shoulder. She sighed a peaceful, satisfied sigh, and reflected on the time they had spent together. Gerard had been amazing, doing everything perfectly. And unlike Bert, who had felt foreign and painful inside of her, Gerard had felt natural, and yet, ethereal.
A soft groan issued from Gerard's mouth. Liana turned to look at him. His hair was hanging over his face, and his mouth was slightly open. Liana almost laughed aloud at how cute he looked. She pushed the hair off of his forehead, whispering, "Hey, you."
"Hey, you," Gerard whispered back, smiling faintly. Liana kissed his lips gently. This kiss was different somehow, but Liana couldn't quite figure out what made it so. Frowning, Liana kissed him again. And then she realized: There were no fangs pressed behind his lips.
Liana gasped. Gerard, whose eyes were only half open, was suddenly wide awake.
"What? What is it?" he asked, standing up. Liana followed suit, and, much to Gerard's surprise, put her fingers in his mouth.
"Your... your fangs," Liana said, prodding around inside his mouth. "Where are your fangs?"
"Whayamea?" Gerard managed to say, with Liana's fingers still stretching his mouth wide open.
"Your fangs! What happened to them?!" Liana continued feeling around inside his mouth, until Gerard pulled her hands out and held them, staring at her with eyes full of concern.
Liana looked down at Gerard's hands. They were much warmer than they had been the night before, when she had held them last. And then the truth hit her.
"You're not a vampire anymore," she whispered.
"Wh... what?"
"You're not a vampire. You don't have fangs, your body is warm..." Liana placed her index and middle fingers on Gerard's wrist. "You've got a pulse... that means you have blood." She smiled happily. "You"re human, Gerard."
"I'm... I'm human..." Gerard breathed. He ran his hands over his body, feeling his pulse and heartbeat for the first time in three years, and his smile grew wider and wider until he was beaming. Without warning, he swept Liana into his arms and kissed her deeply. He lifted her off of her feet, and they both laughed as he spun her around.
"I don't get it though, Gerard," Liana said, when they had stopped celebrating (but their faces were still glowing). "What exactly caused the change?"
"I can tell you that," said a familiar, yet unwelcome voice. Liana and Gerard simultaneously turned their heads, and their smiles simultaneously faded as Bert entered the cell. Liana cursed the fact that she hadn't re-locked the cell the night before.
"Well, well, well..." Bert said, with a sardonic smile. Gerard's arms tightened protectively around Liana. Bert leaned against the door of the cell and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. "Looks like someone had fun last night, don't you think?" He lit a cigarette and put it to his mouth, inhaling deeply.
"What are you talking about, Bert?" Gerard snapped, still holding Liana. Liana felt that he wasn't holding her for her own safety. If she could, she'd have clawed Bert's eyes out right then. Never mind the fact that he wouldn't bleed.
"What, didn't you know?" Bert chuckled condescendingly. "Well, I guess I can tell you. After all, you're both going to die. The least I can do is let you know the details."
If Gerard was alarmed by this, he didn't show it except to tighten his grip on Liana. Liana supposed he was more afraid for her life than his own. The thought pleased her, but didn't make her feel any better about the situation.
Bert sat down on the floor. Gerard and Liana remained standing. Bert took a long drag on his cigarette before saying, "When two who love, one of the living and one of the undead, come together in body, mind, and spirit; when the love in their hearts and their flesh is shared, the curse is forever shattered."
Bert paused, then said, "So basically that means when human and a vampire fall in love and then have sex, the spell breaks. I take it you guys ******** last night?" When neither of them responded, Bert laughed. "You obviously did, 'cause the spell is definitely broken. Kinda sweet, really. Just like Romeo and Juliet. You met, fell in love, and then died together..." His laugh grew louder, and it was all Liana could do not to slap him yet again.

Wasn't that wonderful? Wasn't that awesome?! ...wasn't that short? Yeah, I know. And I'm sorry. But you will have to wait for more, 'cause that's how we roll. *rolls away*

I'm so, so sorry! I was going to post on the 18th, as I promised, but I just couldn't! ...That's a lie. I just wanted to see how many comments I'd get. But in any event, I am sorry. I left you with that short little scene. Of course, everyone loves Mikey, so I'm sure you don't hate me too much for it. ^_^ Anyway, this scene is uber-long. So you'll have to wait a really, really long time for more. I'll shut up and let you read now. Enjoy!
* * *
Mikey led Liana back to the main room, where Bert's throne stood. They stopped in front of the door that, not long ago, Gerard had been dragged off into.
"Behind this door lies the dungeons," said Mikey in hushed tones. "I don't know exactly which one Gerard is in, but he shouldn?t be too hard to find."
"Are all of the doors locked?" asked Liana, also whispering.
"Yeah, don't worry, they won?t come after you."
"But if they're locked, how will I get to Gerard?"
"Well..." Mikey paused. "I guess you can try seducing the guards."
Liana glared at him, and he laughed. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding! But seriously, you'll be fine. You'll think of something, don't worry."
"I'm not worried," Liana said. They both knew she was lying.
Mikey put a hand out, and hesitantly grabbed the doorknob. Slowly, he turned the knob and pulled the door open. There was a rush of cold air, and a long staircase lay before them, at the bottom of which no light was visible.
"Good luck," Mikey said, stepping aside to let her pass. Liana boldly took the first step, and Mikey pushed the door behind her, with a wave goodbye. With the door closed, the darkness was suddenly absolute.
The staircase was long and steep, and it seemed to go in endless circles. Liana could see nothing but the step in front of her, for the darkness pressed on her from all sides. There was no banister, so she kept one hand pressed against the wall as she descended, not necessarily for balance, but for her own comfort. She wished that Mikey had come with her, or better yet, that Gerard were with her. But of course, if Gerard were with her, she wouldn't be there anyway.
After what felt like hours, she reached the bottom of the staircase. Liana could see a streak of blue light, but the sight did not reassure her. Her next steps were taken with extreme caution.
A blue flame, sitting in a torch on the wall, proved itself as the source of light Liana had seen. There were more torches all along the hall, which extended beyond Liana's line of vision. The torches illuminated the bars behind which the prisoners were held. Liana could hear snores and heavy breathing; evidently many of them were asleep.
Liana walked as quietly as she could down the hall. She could see the huddled masses behind the bars, some of which were huge, and others were tiny. There were vampires standing guard in front of each cell, but they were asleep too, slumped against the bars. Some of them were standing upright as they snored.
Liana peeked into every cell as she passed, looking for Gerard. Some of the prisoners were too far in shadow for her to see, and some were so close that she backed away from them in fear. She was glad that they were all asleep.
"Who's there?" someone whispered.
The voice was coming from a cell that she had already passed. Liana walked hesitantly back to the cell. "Gerard?" Is that you?" she called softly.
"Liana!" It was Gerard's voice. "I knew you'd come for me!"
Liana grinned. "Gerard!" she exclaimed, in a whisper. She rushed to his cell and stared into those deep hazel eyes, which were now aglow with happiness.
Gerard stuck his hand through the bars. Liana entwined her fingers into his, and was surprised at how cold his hand was. She squeezed it, trying to give it some of the warmth in her own hand.
A grunting snore interrupted them. A vampire was sitting on the floor less than two feet away from where Liana stood. She recognized him as the same vampire that had tried to stop her entering the mansion, the one Gerard had addressed as Branden.
Branden held a keyring in his hand. Liana let go of Gerard's hand and knelt down in front of Branden. Slowly, with bated breath, Liana pulled the keyring out of his loose grip. She stood up again, and let out her breath with a relieved sigh.
The cell Gerard was in had a silver 17 on the door. Liana looked at the bunch of keys in her hand. She riffled through them, quietly, so as not to wake Branden or any of the other vampires. 13, 14, 15...
"Hurry, Liana!" Gerard whispered anxiously, as Branden stirred in his sleep.
"Here it is! 17!" Liana stuck the key in the lock. She opened the door, and flung herself into Gerard's waiting arms.
"You... you..." Liana said, sobbing into Gerard's chest.
"Don't worry," Gerard whispered, stroking her hair. "I'm here."
"You... you idiot!"
Once again, Liana slapped Gerard across the face. And once again, Gerard sat on the floor with his palm on his cheek, as Liana towered over him.
"What the... what is wrong with you? Why do you keep doing that?!"
"How dare you get captured and get us into this mess?" Liana hissed, still crying. "You worried me half to death, and then you made me go through the most unbelievable things! I should have just left you to rot in here, you'd deserve it!"
Gerard stood up, as Liana proceeded to insult him in hushed tones. He slipped his arms around her waist and drew her to him, holding her close.
Liana stopped talking abruptly, and her arms found their way around his neck. Her tears continued to fall, and they landed on Gerard's shoulder as he embraced her.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. "I didn't mean it, I'm sorry..."
Gerard pulled away from her, just enough to stare into her eyes, which were glistening with tears. He wiped them away with his finger, but more came to replace them. Slowly, he drew closer to her.
Liana knew what he was going to do, and she moved forward to accept it. Their lips met, and Liana was surprised at how cold his were, just like his hand had been. Were vampires always this cold? She kissed him harder.
Gerard pressed Liana against the wall, and against him. As they kissed, his hands roved over her, touching her arms, her waist, her thighs. Gently, he untied the knot on her pajama pants, and slid them off of her. He stroked her bare skin, and she winced.
"What's wrong?" he asked.
Liana shook her head. "Nothing. It's nothing."
Gerard glanced downwards, and saw something dark red on Liana's inner thigh. Slowly he looked back up, and stared straight into her eyes.
"What... exactly... did Bert do to you?"
Liana's eyes filled with tears again, but she shook her head still harder. "Nothing. He didn't do anything. Don't worry about it." They both knew she was lying; the tears streaming down her cheeks were a dead giveaway.
Gerard pulled Liana close to him, and hugged her as tightly as he could. Liana sobbed into his shoulder, but she kept repeating, "He didn't do anything. Honestly, it's nothing."
Suddenly Gerard let go of her. He turned around and retreated to the far corner of the cell, where it was too dark for her to see exactly what he was doing. He knelt down on the floor, with his back to her.
Liana slid down to the floor. The cement was cold against her bare skin, but at that moment she didn't much care. She buried her head in her arms, trying to muffle her sobs.
Gerard came back, holding a bowl of warm water and two towels. He knelt in front of her, and gently parted her legs with the palms of his hands. Liana winced again, closing her eyes, but she quickly opened them again when she felt the damp material on her inner thigh. Gerard was cleaning the dried blood off of her skin.
If Liana was surprised, she didn't show it except to blink. Gerard submersed the towel in the bowl of water, then wrung it out and continued wiping off the blood. His strokes were swift and gentle, and Liana shivered slightly from his touch. When he finished, he dropped the wet towel into the bowl, and dried her with the other towel.
Liana watched him silently as he put down the dry towel. She watched his hands caressing her skin, watched his fingertips make their way to the waistband of her panties, watched him slide the panties off of her. But most of all, she watched his eyes. She stared into those beautiful hazel eyes, and felt herself falling... falling...

I forgot to give you my "this scene is suggestive" warning. But it wasn't that bad, was it? No, of course it wasn't. And now I will go on hiatus, because that scene was so long. I need to give you time to take it all in, right? Right. ^_^

There's just something so much fun about leaving you people hanging. It's nothing personal, just my twisted sense of humor. But this scene is short, so I'll do my best to post another one soon.
[[And Ethereal, if you're reading this, I apologize for scaring you with that last scene. You picked a very bad time to start reading. XD]]
* * *
There was nothing but silence. Liana slowly pushed the bathroom door open and peeked out. Bert was asleep, lying on top of his covers, breathing deeply. Liana crept out of the bathroom and made her way across the room as quietly as she could. She pulled the bedroom door open, holding her breath as it creaked softly. Bert didn't seem to hear it, and it was with a rush of relief that Liana left the room.
But her relief was short lived.
"Hey! Where are you going?" said a voice much too close behind her. Holding her breath again, she turned around to face her adversary. But it wasn't Bert: This vampire was tall and thin, and wore glasses. His light brown hair lay flat on his head, and he had a rather pink nose.
Liana sighed. "Oh," she said. "I thought you were someone else. Well, bye then." She turned to leave, but the vampire grabbed her arm.
"You can't just run away," he said. "I was ordered to make sure you didn't escape."
"Figures," Liana said, sighing again. She slid down against the wall, and sat down on the floor with her head in her hands, an image of defeat.
The vampire just stared at her. Then, suddenly, he extended his hand to her. "My name's Mikey," he said. "And you're Liana; everyone here already knows your name. Nice to finally meet you."
"Charmed, I'm sure," Liana said, not looking up. She was perfectly content to continue sulking on the floor, especially since her only other option was to go back to Bert.
Mikey blinked, then took back his extended hand. "Fine," he said, turning to leave. "I guess you don't want my help."
"Help?" Liana looked up quickly, but Mikey was already halfway down the hall. "Wait!" she cried, running after him. "You mean you're going to help me? You're not just going to hand me back over to Bert?"
"Well, I don't know," said Mikey, stroking his chin thoughtfully. "I guess I could help you. But what's in it for me...?" He raised his eyebrows suggestively.
Liana put her hands on her hips. "There is no way I'm sleeping with you."
Mikey laughed. "I was just kidding, y'know."
* * *
Enter Mikey! Yay Mikey! ^.^ I told you this one was short. I'll post more tomorrow, if I remember and if I can. Bear with me, 'kay?

Yay! I got five comments for that last entry! Thank you all so much! I find it funny that you guys respond to my evil cliffhangers so well. If you like them so much... I'll have to do them more often... mwahaha...
Anyway. Here's the next scene. Actually, this is two scenes, but the second one is too short to post on its own. And no, you don't find out where Gerard has gone yet. You'll have to wait a bit for that. I know, I am too evil... XD
Oh yeah, I have to mention that these scenes are suggestive. So maybe you shouldn't read them. Okay, if you're under 17, don't read this. (Haha... I'm not even 15 yet... XD)
* * *
Liana sat on the silk-lined bed, hugging her knees. She surveyed her surroundings, and registered that if it wasn't such an awful situation, she'd be rather glad to find herself in such a beautiful room.
But now wasn't the time to admire Bert's bedroom decor. She had to plan her escape, and she had to do it fast. She had no idea what Bert was planning on doing to her, but judging from what she had just seen him do to Gerard, he wasn't the nicest guy around.
And Gerard! She needed to find a way to save him as well. She hadn't seen what was behind that door through which they had dragged him, so she couldn't say what had happened to him. What was it Bert had said...? "remind him what happens to traitors in this community..." He couldn't have meant...?
Liana shook her head roughly to clear it. "No," she said aloud. "Gerard's not dead. He can't be dead."
"Well, not yet, anyway," said a voice behind her. Bert had entered the room, and Liana didn't much like the smile he had on his face. "He's just locked up in the dungeons right now."
Liana breathed a sigh of relief.
"But I can order him killed whenever I want," Bert continued, approaching the bed.
"You better not," Liana said sharply. She fixed him with an angry glare. "You better not touch him, or I'll..."
"You'll what?" Bert asked softly, cupping her chin in his hand. "You're pretty cute, y'know. You'd better watch your mouth, or I might just have to mess up that face of yours."
Liana resisted the urge to slap him. "Get your filthy hands off of me," she said, slowly and clearly.
Bert laughed. He began stroking her face.
"I mean it, don't touch me," Liana said, her hands grabbing the satin sheets, trying to ignore the anger pounding in her ears.
Bert continued stroking her cheeks, and his hands moved up to touch her hair. That was the last straw. Liana let go of the sheets she was grasping and hit him hard across the face, leaving a bright red handprint on his cheek. (Author?s note: Liana sure seems to do a lot of slapping, doesn't she?)
Bert was enraged. He struck her face in retaliation, and the bruise was darker and much more painful than the one she had given him. Liana covered her face with the palm of her hand. She stared up at Bert, and the anger in his eyes struck fear in her heart.
"I'm... sorry..." she whispered.
"Shut up," Bert said. He didn't sound angry, or even upset, and somehow that scared Liana more than anything else he had done. He walked away from the bed and shook out a cigarette from the pack on his dresser. He lit it and took a long drag, and blew the smoke out slowly.
Liana stared downward, contemplating her current position. Obviously her old stand-bys, sarcasm and slapping, wouldn't help in this situation. She decided to play along and do what Bert asked her, whatever that was. She could only hope it wasn't too awful.
She sat silently as Bert smoked his cigarette. When he finished, he walked back to the bed and knelt next to her. He touched her face, gingerly stroking the bruise he himself had given her.
"Sorry about that," he said, grinning. "I tend to get a little rough sometimes. But you forgive me, right?" He ran his fingers up and down her arm.
Liana shuddered, but didn't say anything. Bert grabbed her wrist and squeezed it. "I said, you forgive me, right?!" He squeezed her arm even tighter. She nodded, wincing at the pain.
"Good..." Bert said softly. His hand moved up, and he began tugging gently at her hair, twining it around his fingers. Liana closed her eyes tightly and grabbed hold of the sheets again.
Bert noticed her actions, but mistook her anger for fear. He stroked her hair as gently as he could muster. "What are you so afraid of?" he asked. "I don't bite." He threw his head back and laughed at this, and Liana could see his fangs gleaming. She rolled her eyes, unable to stop herself.
"Aw, c'mon," Bert said. "You know that was funny."
"Ha, ha," Liana said flatly. Bert was still stroking her hair. She wished with all her heart that he would stop.
Bert frowned. "I don't think I like your attitude," he said. "How are we supposed to have fun if you don't want to enjoy yourself a little bit?" He removed his hand from her hair and began playing with the string on Liana's pajama pants. Liana's eyes widened in fear and shock as he untied the knot and began to push her pants off. She grabbed the waist and tried to pull them back up, but the look that he gave her told her very plainly what he would do if she opposed him.
Bert slid her pants off of her, followed closely by her panties. The room wasn't exactly warm, and Liana shivered in nothing but her t-shirt. She curled her legs in, trying to cover herself up, but Bert pushed her back onto the bed and slowly, very slowly, he pried her legs open.
"Just relax," he whispered, unbuttoning his pants. "This won't hurt a bit, I promise."
* * *
Half an hour later, Liana sat on the floor of Bert's private bathroom. She was again hugging her knees, and the blood that had dripped from her body was still there, slowly drying on her inner thighs. Tears trailed down her cheeks, and she wiped them away roughly, but still more fell. "Damn that a*****e," she whispered, burying her face in her hands. "He promised it wouldn't hurt..."
* * *
Le gasp! The horror! Bert, how could you do such a thing?! O: I'll leave you to stew in your anger towards him. More later.

The last time I posted was on the 2nd, yes? Yes, I believe it was. And you know what? That scene recieved 4 comments on the same day. Which is good. And I thank you. But I find it interesting how after that first day, I didn't get any more comments on it. I wonder why that happened? *strokes her nonexistant beard in apparent thought* Oh well. I'm not complaining. 4 comments is good. And here's the next scene for you. It isn't as long as the last one, but it's a decent length. And this one's even worse than the last in terms of cliffhangers. I know, I'm so evil. Mwahaha.
* * *
Gerard walked hesitantly up to the head vampire's mansion. He knew that Bert wasn't exactly benevolent, but he was usually fair. Liana followed him, trying to keep herself hidden behind him, as she knew that most vampires showed no mercy to humans. Together, they stood in front of the doors of the house, which towered over even the surrounding trees.
"Maybe I should wait? out here..." Liana whispered fearfully.
"Unprotected? Don't be stupid, Liana," Gerard hissed. He took her hand and squeezed it to reassure her. "Come on."
He cleared his throat and called, "Excuse me? Might I have a word with Bert?"
Another vampire appeared at the door. This one was tall, with short dark hair, gauged ears, and a bridge piercing. He opened the door and nodded silently at Gerard, allowing him to pass. But when Liana attempted to follow, the vampire grabbed her arm to stop her. She wrenched her arm out of his grip, but he took hold of her again.
Gerard shook his head at the vampire. "It's okay, Branden," he said. "She's with me." He took her hand, and together, they approached Bert?s throne. Liana resisted the urge to make a face at Branden.
Bert was lounging on the throne with his legs over the armrest, lazily puffing at a cigarette. He showed no sign that he noticed their presence.
"Bert?" Gerard said, and luckily his voice did not convey his fear.
Bert exhaled a cloud of smoke and waved his hand, inviting Gerard to speak. Gerard sighed with relief and began to state his business.
"I was just... um... wondering if... if there was any way that... that a vampire could be... well... transformed... back into a human. Do you... know if it's possible?"
Bert tapped the end of his cigarette, letting the ashes fall onto the floor. He then pushed it into the ashtray on the table next to his chair. He sat up and leaned forward, his chin resting on his fingertips.
"And why do you want to know that?" he said softly. "Might you, perhaps, be saying that you have grown tired of the vampire lifestyle? Have you forgotten that before we took you in, you were living on the streets of New Jersey? We took you in. We saved your life. Is this is how you repay us? With treason?"
"No, Bert! That's not it at all!" Gerard said, surprised at Bert's reaction. "I just... I just want to go back to the life I had, my life as a human."
"You had no life," Bert said coldly. "You were nothing."
"I was human," said Gerard angrily. "I want to be human again."
"Enough!" Bert said loudly, startling Gerard and Liana. "I do not wish to listen to this any longer. You have disappointed me, Gerard. You were by far the greatest collector of humans I have ever seen. What happened to you...?"
He stared at Gerard's angry face, and his eyes shifted to Liana, whose face looked just as angry.
"Why, it's a human girl," he said, almost to himself.
"Yeah, so what?" she said stubbornly.
Bert chuckled softly. "That explains everything," he said. "So you've fallen in love with a mortal, have you, Gerard?" (Author's note: For all you Inu-Yasha fans out there, doesn't that sound familiar...? XD)
If Gerard had been human, he probably would have blushed at that. But since vampires are bloodless, his blood could not rush to his face. Liana's did, though, and her cheeks turned bright pink.
Bert laughed again. "I knew it," he said.
"That's none of your business, Bert," Gerard snapped, surprised at his own audacity. Bert, however, took no notice of Gerard's remark.
"Be that as it may, Gerard," he said, "I cannot have you running around with silly thoughts of humans in your head. It's a shame, though. Our food supply will decrease significantly with you gone."
"Gone?" Gerard repeated blankly. "What do you mean? I'm not going anywhere!"
"Oh, yes you are," Bert said, chuckling again. "You're going away for a long, long time." He clapped his hands twice. "Jeph! Quinn!"
Two more vampires appeared by his side. One was dark haired, and had a lot of piercings and tattoos. The other had blond hair with brown highlights, irregularly cut so that it sloped over his face, and no visible tattoos or piercings.
"You called, Bert?" said the one with the tattoos.
"I did indeed, Jeph," Bert replied. "Our friend Gerard here has decided that he no longer wants the luxury of remaining here with us. He would rather return to his pitiful life as a human. I would like you to remind him what happens to traitors in this community."
Jeph laughed sadistically. "Sure thing," he said, and Quinn began cracking his knuckles. Gerard backed away slowly as Quinn and Jeph advanced on him.
"What do we do now?" Liana whispered. Gerard shook his head. He had no idea.
Quinn and Jeph took Gerard's arms and easily lifted him off the ground by his biceps. He struggled, and Quinn struck him hard with his fist, nearly knocking him out. They carried him to a door on the left side of the room. The door was closed, but Liana could tell that whatever was behind it wasn't very pleasant.
"Stop it!' She screamed, surprising everyone. "Let him go, you bastards!"
Bert stared at Liana as though he had never seen anything quite like her. "And what do you plan to do if I don't, little girl?" he said, much like a mean teacher would ask a rude student.
"I'll kick your a**, that's what!" Liana countered.
Bert seemed surprised for a moment. Then he let out an amused laugh, a laugh that somehow sounded cold. "She's quite a find!" he called to Gerard, who was about to be dragged away. Quinn pulled the door open, and Gerard turned his head drowsily.
"Liana..." he said faintly. "I... love you..."
The door closed behind them with a creak, and a loud slam. Liana fell to her knees.
"I love you too, Gerard," she whispered. But it was too late.

Well, I think you've waited long enough... |

It's been awhile, I know. You all must have been positively dying to read more of my fantastic story, right? You must have lost a lot of sleep speculating over the next scene, right? Yeah, I know, I'm delusional. But those of you who read this thing must have been at least a little bit anxious for more. By the way, those of you who read and don't leave comments are just mean. Please leave comments; they re-assure me that I'm not sitting here talking to myself.
Anyway, here's the next scene. Brace yourselves, this is a really long one.
* * *
When Liana awoke, it was nighttime. She could see the moon shining through the canvas tent. She sighed, and smiled slightly. She had always been a rather nocturnal person, preferring to read and draw at night. She wondered where her sketchbook was now.
Thinking of her sketchbook reminded her of Haylie and her mother. It had been about a day since Gerard had taken her. She smiled again, pleased at the idea of her mother and sister searching frantically and fruitlessly for her.
Footsteps outside interrupted her thoughts. Her breath froze in her throat, and her eyes opened wide. She let out her breath slowly when Gerard entered the tent. It was dark, and she could barely see him, but she recognized his shoulder-length hair. She closed her eyes halfway, in case he could tell she was awake.
Gerard knelt down beside her. The moonlight behind his head gave him a sort of ghostly aura. He gazed at her, and the darkness of the night hid the tender look in his eyes. He stroked her arm with his fingertips, and it sent a chill up Liana's spine. He then began running his fingers through her hair.
Normally, Liana never let anyone touch her hair. It was her trademark, her best feature. It was also the only thing she had left of her father, who had died years ago, right before her sister Haylie was born. In an attempt to start anew, they had moved away from the house they had lived in. But Liana didn't want to forget her father. He was the only one who understood her, who she really felt a connection with. She was glad she had the same hair as him; the same long black hair to serve as a daily reminder of him. It was sacred to her.
Now, Gerard was caressing her hair gently, and she was enjoying the feel of his fingers on her head. He was pushing stray strands off of her forehead, tucking them back behind her ears. He started whispering, and Liana wasn't sure if he was talking to himself or her.
"Frank was right though, you are gorgeous," he said. "Soft skin... beautiful hair... nice eyes, even if they're closed right now..." He pushed one last strand of hair off of Liana's face and sank back onto his heels. "If I weren't such a gentleman, I'd probably ******** you like a wild stallion right now."
Liana's eyes popped open. She shot up from the ground and slapped Gerard across the face. She slid as far away from him as she could without knocking over the tent. Gerard fell onto his back. Liana got up and stood over him.
"What the...?" Gerard clapped his hand to his face and stared up at Liana.
"How dare you?" Liana's voice was shaking with a mixture of anger and shame. How had she let herself trust him? He was no different from the others. How could she have opened herself up so much? She was angrier at herself than him, but there was no way she was going to let him know that, so she said again, "How could you?"
"How could I what?!" Gerard retorted, still recovering from the shock of Liana popping up, when he thought she was asleep.
"How could you do that to me? I... I almost..." Liana stopped. She couldn't tell him that she had trusted him. She couldn't say it. She couldn't.
"I trusted you!" The words burst from her. She covered her mouth with her hands; her eyes wide open in shock.
Gerard was in shock too. This was not what he had expected. He stood up and walked over to Liana, who had turned away from him. He placed his hand on her shoulder.
"I... appreciate the fact that you trusted me," he said slowly. "But... what exactly did I do to break your trust...?"
Liana turned around sharply to glare at Gerard, and he could see that she had tears in her eyes. "What did you do?!" she screamed. "Oh, I dunno... how about you just saying you were gonna ********' rape me? Huh?! What about that?!"
Gerard just stared at her. "I never said I was going to rape you!" he said in disbelief.
"Well then, what does '******** you like a wild stallion' mean to you? I was ********' sleeping!"
"No you weren't, actually."
"Shut up! That's not the point!"
"Then what is?"
Liana resisted the urge to slap Gerard again. She took three deep breaths, and when she spoke again, it was in a much calmer voice.
"The point is you thought I was asleep, and you said you were going to... you know..."
Gerard shook his head. "I said if I weren't such a gentleman, I would do it. But since I am a gentleman, I'm not going to. You should take it as a compliment."
Liana exploded again. "******** you!" she screamed. "You're not a gentleman, you're an a*****e! What the ******** is wrong with you?"
"Me? What's wrong with you?"
Liana wasn't listening. "Never mind, I know the answer to that question. I know exactly what's wrong with you. You're a vampire. And judging from my past experiences, all vampires are dirty stinkin' perverts!"
"I'm nothing like the other vampires!" Gerard said angrily.
"And what exactly makes you so different? Hm? That?s right, nothing!" Liana yelled, not giving Gerard time to answer her question. "You're exactly like the rest of them!"
"What, you think I like being a vampire?"
Liana stopped short. She didn't know what to say to that. She stared at Gerard with her mouth slightly open, and watched him sit down on the ground with his back to her.
"It was actually very recently that I was taken," he said softly. "Only about three years ago, and for a vampire, that's like a week." Liana could barely hear him, so she sat down with her back to him, and leaned against him.
"I was an orphan. My parents both died a long time ago," he said. "I never knew them. I don't know any of my family, or even if I have a family. I've lived my entire life alone. So when this... woman... took me, and turned me into a vampire, I was scared at first, but she treated me like a son. And I was so happy, for the first time in my life, because I finally had a family, somewhere to belong. The whole community here, it's like one big family, and they welcomed me with open arms.
"But of course, I didn't like the idea of hurting innocent people. My surrogate mother taught me... she said... she said people were evil, and they deserved their fate. I didn't want to believe her, but after all of the raids, and all the times we had to go into hiding because people were hunting us down, I started to see what she meant. Besides, we needed people for sustenance, otherwise we'd starve and die out. But then..."
Gerard stopped for a moment. Liana was silent, waiting for him to go on. Gerard took a deep, almost shuddering breath, and continued.
"But then... the woman who took me in... and cared for me... my mother... she was killed, killed by humans, on a raid. I could... I could never forgive them for it. I... became more ruthless than the rest, taking more humans every night than was needed. We never had that cage before I came, because we'd each just take one human a night, and feed on them. I... I didn't like what I had become, but it was the only way I could... avenge my mother's death..."
Gerard fell silent. Liana's eyes filled with tears of sympathy, or rather, empathy; she knew what it was like to lose someone so close. She turned around, but Gerard's head was bowed, and she was sure he was crying too.
Liana placed her hand on Gerard?s shoulder. "I know how you feel," she whispered. "I... I lost my father, a long time ago. He was basically the only family I had."
Without turning around, Gerard said, "What about that woman and that girl I saw with you last night? Aren't they your family?"
"Well, yes, biologically anyway," Liana answered. "That's my mom and my sister, but I... I don't feel related to them. My father and I really connected. We shared a special bond. The only thing I share with my sister and mother is the same house. It?s like we exist together, but we don't co-exist... Oh, I don't know what I'm talking about."
"I understand," Gerard said faintly, finally turning to look at her. His beautiful hazel eyes were glistening, and Liana's suspicions about him crying were confirmed. "I know exactly what you're trying to say. It's like you're there, and they're there, but you live in your own separate worlds."
"Exactly!" Liana said, smiling. "That's exactly what I mean."
Gerard took Liana's hand off of his shoulder and held it in his hand. He squeezed it gently. "I feel the same way, being here," he said. "I'm not like the other vampires at all. I hate being this way. I wish there was some way I could go back to being human, even though I don't really trust people anymore. If I were human, maybe I could repent for what I have done, and be able to cope with the loss of my mother."
"Is there a way?" Liana asked.
"I don?t know," replied Gerard. He stared into her eyes, and took her other hand in his, so that he was holding both of them. "But if there is, will you help me find it? I don't want to stay here anymore, I really don't. You will help me, won't you?"
Liana didn't answer right away. She was completely at a loss for words. How was she supposed to help a vampire find a way to become human? Before last night, she didn't even know vampires existed. How was she going to be any help to Gerard at all? And did she even believe what he was saying? Could she really trust him?
Gerard squeezed her hands, and stared deeper into her eyes. "Please," he whispered. "I need you."
Liana made up her mind in a split second. "I'll do what I can."

People like my writing... it makes me happy inside. mrgreen La la la.... here's a very very dramatic scene for you. Be happy! Squee!!!
* * *
"Ooh, here's a cute one," a voice said. Liana felt a cold hand stroking her cheek, and she lashed out and slapped it before she even opened her eyes.
"Feisty, too!" the voice said, and Liana could hear the thrill of excitement and lust in his tone. She opened her eyes to see a young man very close to her face, staring at her. Could he be another vampire? "And just look at those eyes! Come over here and check her out, Ray."
Yet another vampire, Ray she assumed, left the girl he had been looking at and came over to Liana and his friend. He too looked closely into her stubborn face. "Damn, Frank, she is hot," he said. "You gonna ******** her or just drink her?"
"This one's too sweet to pass up," Frank said, feeling her chest through her shirt. Liana slapped him, and a red welt appeared on his face, clearly visible.
Frank looked angry, but aroused nonetheless. He took both of her wrists in his hands and pressed them to the ground, hurting her. She tried to scream, but he forced his lips onto hers before she could make a sound. She could feel his fangs behind his lips, and she gasped in fear and disgust as his tongue began hungrily (or rather, thirstily) exploring her mouth. She could hear Ray laughing a few feet away. When Frank finally stopped, Liana was too terrified to say anything, not even a sarcastic remark.
Frank stared straight into her eyes and said softly, "You love me. You love me more than anything else in the world. You want me."
"I... want you...?" Liana whispered, under his spell.
"Yes, that's it..."
"HEY!"
Gerard came storming into the cage, and pulled Frank off of Liana. He slapped her face. "Wake up, dammit!"
"Huh...?" Liana said, still dazed, not to mention half asleep.
"What the ******** is your problem, man?" asked Frank. "I was just gonna have a little fun with the b***h."
"Not this one," Gerard said, shielding Liana with his body. "This one is mine."
He picked her up and carried her to the entrance of the cage. He shot an icy glare at Ray, who was standing near the door. He backed away. Gerard left with Liana in his arms.
"Are you okay?" Gerard asked Liana as he deposited her on the mat in his tent. Each vampire had their own tent, but most of them had no beds because they slept as bats, hanging upside-down on poles and clutching them with their feet. Gerard, however, had a mat, and Liana could only wonder where he had gotten it from. Or at least she would have wondered, if she had been fully conscious.
"Frank..." she whispered. "I want Frank..." She was still under the spell. Gerard looked at her in disgust. He slapped her again.
"What...?" Liana said drowsily. Her eyes flickered open, and she looked up at Gerard, who was kneeling next to her. She let out a scream, and Gerard rolled his eyes.
"Shut up, it's me."
Liana scoffed. "Like that's any better. You're one of them."
Gerard stood up. "I don't have time for this right now," he said. "You can stay in here. You should be safe until I get back."
"So when you get back, I won't be safe anymore, is that what you're saying?"
"Naturally. Who knows what I'll do to you?" He knelt back down and dug the tip of his fingernail into her neck gently. It didn't hurt, but Liana still got his meaning, and she shuddered. He chuckled softly as he stood up again. "Get some sleep now, or else you'll be tired tonight."
"What's happening tonight?"
"Again, who knows?"
"Stop being so vague. What are you planning on doing to me?"
"Hmm..." Gerard stroked his chin, apparently in deep thought. "In all honesty, I haven't decided yet."
"You know what? You're really starting to piss me off," Liana said angrily. She got up and headed towards the flaps of the tent. "******** this. I'm leaving."
"You think the other vampires are just going to let you walk out of here?"
Liana froze. She hadn't thought of that. The memory of Frank's hypnotic eyes was still fresh in her mind. A chill ran through her body, and to hide her fear, she put on a scowl and flopped down on the ground hard. She instantly wished she hadn't; the ground was soft, and she sank down into it. But that was okay; she didn't plan on getting up anytime soon, what with all those vicious and lecherous vampires out there.
"Good..." Gerard said softly. "Now just stay here. I'll be back soon. I do suggest you get some sleep." He departed without a backwards glance.
Liana flopped backwards on the ground, not caring that she was getting her hair even dirtier. As much as she hated to admit it, she really was tired. But could she really trust Gerard enough to sleep in his tent? This was like his house! His bedroom, even! He was a vampire; he could come in and suck her blood at any time. Or he might try to take advantage of her, like Frank had.
She shuddered again at the thought of Frank, and his eyes. Gerard's eyes were nothing like that. They weren't exactly warm, but not quite cold, either. They were much warmer than Frank's; that was certain. And prettier.
Liana sighed. Gerard's eyes were beautiful. Liana wished her green eyes were more like Gerard's. Not only were his eyes green, but brown and gold, all at the same time. Liana thought for a minute. There was a name for his eye color, wasn't there...? Oh, right, hazel. Hazel... that was a pretty word too...
Liana drifted off to sleep with thoughts of Gerard. She had done the same the night before, but now, there was a little less fear in her heart.
