This story is about a girl; it is about her bravery, confidence and hope that one day she will have a better life. This is the story of a girl named Naria Impo. A slender girl with normal features, and little short for her age but she doesn’t mind. With black as night hair and electric green eyes she is pretty much…normal. Her father and mother, Guang and Fara were very happy that they had a little girl to call there own. Only one problem, Fara was only 16 when she gave birth. The law stated who ever had a baby at that age or younger would be killed along with the child. Naria never saw her mother. She and her dad hid for 12 years in an alleyway next to the place were most of the villagers would dump their waste. Such as food wrappings, old worthless junk that not even a rat would want, and even things form facilities. Her father never talked about her mother, not even when they were praying.
Naria wriggled on the ground; covered with an old torn up peace of cloth that barely covered her small cut feet. It was a hot night, yet her sweat was cold. In her mind flashed pictures. Pictures that would send her mind running. It was a picture about an infant, an infant that was being threatened with a knife. At first she thought that it was her father. When her father drank on very rare occasions he would miss treat her. But it wasn’t. It was a guard. It was the guard of the over ruler. He was trying to cut off the head of the small infant, but the knife wouldn’t penetrate its skin. In the background she heard a woman’s weep. “NO! NO!” she cried as the baby was about to be killed. Then the guard’s frustrated face glared at the woman. He slowly killed her. Slicing her neck inch by inch, and then finally she fell to the ground with a thump.
Naria woke with a start. She got up off the ground, realizing that it was still dark. Her father was going through an old scrap pile. “Bad dream?” he asked. “You might say that,” she said. “I’m going to try going back to sleep.” “All right, suit yourself.”
Naria lay back on the ground thinking. She wondered for what seemed like hours; she couldn’t figure it out. Then finally she dozed off.
Naria was having a peaceful sleep. She almost never had a chance to dream her own dreams instead of having those visions that interrupted her sleep. “Naria! Naria! Wake up! They’re after us!” Her dad screamed franticly. “Who? Who’s after us?” “ The guards! RUN!” They ran through the alleyway. By now they knew all the locations of each new land, and every worthless pebble that may lie on the ground. They ran past stores with the guards of the over lord right behind them with every weapon imaginable. The guards finally turned back when they were miles away from town. “We should be safe here,” said her father. All Naria wanted to do was hug her dad. Hug him and never let go. To not let go to the day she died. She cried under an old willow tree. They stayed there for the night, waiting for everything to end. All the hatred in the world, the entire killing and destroying everything, she just wanted it all to end.
Naria woke in early morning. Her father looked like he was getting ready to leave. “What are you doing?” she asked. “We’re leaving?” “What?” asked Naria.
“You heard me. We’re leaving.” “Why?” She asked in a confused voice. “Just come on!” “No I’m not leaving. I like it here.” Naria said. The old willow tree and its leafs comforted Naria like some one up there was really looking after her. Unlike her father who just grunted when she told him that she was going some were. Her father grabbed her as if she were a dog. “We are leaving now.” He said straight into her ear firmly grasping the collar of an old torn up shirt that she found in a scrap pile that barely fit her. “NO! No I’m not going!” “ You are!” “NO!” Her father pushed her on the ground. Then she saw a bottle on the ground right next to her foot. Her father must have been drinking last night while she was sleeping. She saw a small pocketknife in reach of her arm. She strained herself to grab it. Her father came down as though he was about to kill her. Right over her eyes were his. “YOU ARE, AHHHH” He shrieked with pain as Naria stabbed him in the chest. Right between the diaphragm and the lower rib cage. He fell on her dead, and the worst part of all was that his eyes were open starring right into hers. Horrific.
She crawled out from under the corpse as fast as she could. Realizing what she had just done she fled. She ran to the nearest forest. The Dark Forest fit its name. Trees every were looked as though it was furious with any one who past them. “ Hey, watch were your going” a big deep voice said.” “Pardon me. I’m sorry.” said Naria. “You should be. Go away!” it was a big oak tree that she accidentally ran into. She sat on a rock covered with moss. She hid there, waiting. Waiting for her life to end, with no parents, and no home, what is left, just her life? What was left to do? Holding the pocketknife that she killed her own father with an inch away from her throat- “Don’t do that.” “Huh?” She said in confusion. “I said don’t do that.” A figure stepped out of the mist and fog of the forest. It was a boy, taller than Naria, but still looked young. “Are you Naria. From the prophecy?” “What?” “Are you Naria?” The boy said again. “Yes. Why?” “Oh I can’t believe I found you! Hurry we don’t have much time!” He started to come into focus as he sprang forward. He looked about 20. He had dark brown hair and his eyes; they looked like a jungle cats. “ My village has been waiting for centuries.” He said with a cry. “What’s your name by chance?” she asked. “ I’m Vasuvie. I live in an in a small village just north of here. Here he comes! Hurry!” Naria couldn’t think for a single moment; they were off and running.
Naria didn’t dare look back, even though she didn’t even know what was chasing them. They ran as fast as they could, dodging trees. Soon they came to a small town. Guns were being fired at what ever was behind Naria and Vasuvie. “ KAROCO!” Vasuvie screamed at the top of his lungs when they reached the gate of the village. The men on the top opened the gate and they rushed in. Vasuvie brought Naria to the loft right above the gate. The overlook showed the forest were they just ran from. Something was knocking down trees one after another. “What is that?” Naria whispered to herself. Then something emerged. A big figure covered in flames looked strait at her made Naria’s heart sink. “ Its Hon. He’s a demon from the depths of hell. He is most likely looking for you.” said Vasuvie “ Why is he looking for me?” Naria was really confused. Every thing was happening so fast that it was hard to comprehend. “ You are what we have been waiting for. You are the prophecy.
The prophecy states that you can see into the past and the future.” Naria knew that was true already. “ The past will help you find who you are and the future helps you kill Hon!” Vasuvie seemed very serious about what seemed to be the villagers lives, but who wouldn’t? Hon seemed to turn back right before he reached the tall gate. Why though? Soon all the villagers were crowding around her. Seeing if Naria really was what they have been waiting for. Every one was offering any thing you can imagine like scrumptious foods and beautiful cloth. Anything and every thing. She felt like a goddess. Naria felt as though she actually fit in and had a home; she actually belonged. Much like she felt at the willow tree, but she could not even think about the willow tree. If she did it was sure to come back to haunt her.
That night she had another dream; but this one didn’t have pictures. This was a song.
Think of me, you can hear me when I’m not there,
Think of me, I’m in the place you’d least expect,
Think of me, I’m deep in your heart locked away,
Think of me, I can be found in your whisper and
Dreams,
Come and find me, I miss you so,
Come and find me, in the heart of the empty cave,
I can tell you all you need to know,
Come and find me I love you so.

The song seemed familiar to her. She couldn’t place it. Naria woke Vasuvie. Apparently he was good at puzzles. “There is a cave not to far from here. Its called Lana cave. Lana means love. We should go there now. Collect all your supplies, I’ll tell the shaman and get some food. It’s a long journey, we will survive.” Vasuvie was right it was a long journey. It took them three days just to get to the mountain were the cave was located, but what was strange she woke in the middle of the night with know visions. It seemed like when Naria and Vasuvie were close every thing seemed…normal. Now and then demons would attack them before they could reach the cave and they beat them all. Vasuvie was a bright and strong man and Naria felt comfortable around him. Three nights after they left they made a camp at the foot of the mountain. Vasuvie lit a fire. “So, what’s your story?” asked Naria. “What do you mean?” “ I mean were did you come from?” “Well I came from somewhere very far from here. When my mother died my father went to work on a mission.” “What’s the mission?” asked Naria. “Well I don’t even know really.” This left Naria in a state of confusion. Why would he not even know what his own father’s plans? Naria fell asleep with ease that night knowing a little more about her partner.
Waking she realized that the sun was out. “It’s morning?” she hadn’t slept through the night in years ever since she started dreaming. She quietly crawled out of the tent her and Vasuvie set up last night. She thought he might still be a sleep. “Good morning sleepy head.” Vasuvie said. “I hope you like wild hog, it’s the only thing I could catch.” Naria and Vasuvie ate a quick breakfast anxious to climb to the cave. They climbed until they had come very close to reaching the cave. As they were climbing they heard a rustle in the bushes. At first sight it was a shadowy figure emerging. When it came into view its
face looked like a wild boar, with a body of a man, and from the ground flames was shooting up through his body, but they did not harm him. For he was the demon Vargon. “Climb!” shouted Vasuvie. “Get to the cave!” Naria climbed as fast as she could to the cave of Lana. Vasuvie made sure that Naria was in the cave. “Good job,” said Vasuvie directing it to Vargon. “Tell my father that I’m trying to get closer to her to lure her towards his lair. She trusts me.” said Vasuvie. Vargon replied “I will do anything for my prince and my king.” In the cave Naria was hearing the song again.
It repeated it’s self over and over. Suddenly rushes of air flew around her. In the fast rushes of cool are were images of a woman. Suddenly it stopped. The image of the woman came into view. She recognized her face. “Nariaaa…I’m here…” It spoke to her in a soothing voice. It started to reach out to her. Naria was startled at first but then she was in some kind of trance. “You have a great gift…I give you clothing made out of pure papyrus reed.” The figure spoke. Naria suddenly was in new clothing. Then she heard something that sounded like a birds call. “This is Dars. He is a phoenix. As you know phoenixes have the power to heal any injury except death.” Dars was a beautiful bird. He was a sky blue with a purple stomach. His tail feathers and his wings had a slash of many different colors and seemed to always be close to Naria’s side. “And one last thing.” She pulled out a necklace. Attached to it was a small charm that seemed like a phoenix feather frozen in time. Naria tied it to her neck. She gently touched the beautifully carved charm. The charm was a beautiful turquoise stone.
Suddenly, pictures flashed through her mind like she was in one of her dreams, but she was awake. She remembered everything and every detail of her mother’s death when she was an infant. Was this figure an illusion of her mother or was it the real thing? She remembered the figure. It was her mother! Then she took a step toward the figure. Her hand passed right through as she reached out to hug her. As Naria’s arms came around her mother she fell on the floor. She turned to the figure. “ Mother?” Naria whispered. “Why did you leave me behind? How did I live?” The figure looked at her with teary eyes. She wiped them away quickly and finally said, “You have a big job to do. You must find the six fairies along with their pixies. They will open the door….” At that she faded away and Naria fell into complete darkness.

Naria’s hazy eyes slowly started to open. She looked up at the ceiling of the collapsing cave…COLAPSING?! Naria jumped; the cave was collapsing by the second, but were was Dars? He must have flown out of the cave as soon as he knew. She ran out of the cave…or at least tried. The rocks came to quickly. The cave exit was sealed, but not by the collapsing rocks. But by a huge boulder that seemed to fit the caves hole exactly.
It became pitch black in the Lana cave that night or at least she thought it was night. Naria wanted to cry, but there were know tears left in her. Her whole world was collapsing just like the cave and no one was there to comfort her. Not even Vasuvie the only friend she had ever had in her 12 years of living. Vasuvie! Were was he…oh it didn’t matter. Naria lay down on the cold and dirty ground of the cave and curled up in a ball. Wait a minute. Why didn’t Vasuvie enter the cave with her? A faint blue light appeared out of the dark. “What?” She looked down. There were strange rocks growing out of the ground…. that glowed? There seemed to be hundreds of them lighting a tunnel, but faintly.
There was know other known way out so Naria decided to walk down it. She was about 15 feet into the tunnel when she heard a screeching sound. “EEEEEE!” Only one animal could make that high pitched of a sound…bat-moles. Bat-moles were strange creatures. They could fly like bats and were mammals, but they were also part mole. They could land and use its sharp claws and fury and large arms to dig through anything. Even solid ice. Naria knew there was know other way out so she crouched covering her head. She knew the dangers of coming in contact with a bat-mole from stories her father used to tell her, but they were just stories right?
Naria heard the flapping of their massive wings echoing through the tunnel. Then suddenly it stopped. She got up out of her crouched position. Huge clawed feet stood in front of Naria’s shocking electric green eyes. She stood up quickly to find she was in the presence of an eight-foot tall bat-mole.
The creature looked at Naria with mammoth blood red eyes. “What is she doing in our cave? And she is and you are?” the bat-mole hissed. The strange dialect of the creature was difficult to comprehend. It took a minute for Naria to grasp what he was actually saying, but she finally answered. “ I am Naria Impo of Raja.” she said nervously. The animal answered “She is I am Crok Dia the swift and I lord all of bat-moles.” Naria giggled a little, but then she realized that she should respect this creature or he might eat her or something like that. Crok Dia looked down at her. “I you here now why?” “I am was trapped here looking for a farie and her pixie.” “And farie her name is?” Naria realized that she did not know the names of any of the fairies. “I don’t know.” she answered still shaking from knowing that Crok Dia may make a feast out of her at any moment.
“Hmmm…I say you farie is down Naria Impo tunnel? Name Sithra farie?” Crok Dia hissed. “I guess so, but why haven’t you eaten or at lest killed me yet?” Naria was very puzzled. “Bat-moles we miss under stood, and hurts big family’s feelings.” He paused. “ Naria Impo you ready?” “Yes I am.” She replied. Crok Dia used his claws to snag her clothing and he and his civilization took off into the underground tunnel with her flying with them.
Naria had never even dreamed of flying and there she was. Looking down on the ground instead of walking on it. Occasionally her and Crok Dia would strike up a conversation, but for most of the trip they were silent. The tunnel was about two miles and a half miles long and with every flap of Crok Dia’s wings the tunnel glowed brighter with the dim light of the blue crystals.
Suddenly Crok Dia and his clan stopped. He put Naria down gently.
“Is this leave were we you.” Crok Dia hissed. “Why there is still about a half mile to go. Why stop now?” Naria stuttered. “ Bright light to. Destroy us light will. We die shall we.” Naria realized that the light from the glowing blue crystals was so bright that her eyes stung. With a heavy heart Naria left
Crok Dia and his clan of bat-moles. By now Naria thought that she would have been killed if the bat-moles had been hostile. She waved good-bye and continued her quest for the fairies and their pixies.
She started to walk one lonely mile. With out Crok Dia Naria had no one to talk to. Even though he and Naria didn’t talk to much she had felt more convertible with him around. Occasionally Naria would hum to herself with the tune her mother had sung. The tunnel seemed longer with every step she took. Naria walked for about 3 hours before she noticed that she should have reached the end.
