Jindal (contains spoilers for LoZ: Twilight Princess)
Jindal is an original character who I created for Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. He was supposed to be incidental, just showing up in a fanfiction idea I had, but then he grew a personality. And a back story. And then a life of his own...

For those of you who have actually played the game, Jindal's appearance is strongly based on that of Midna's true form, so that should make it a little easier to picture.

Age: He's immortal. He appears to be around age twenty.

Appearance: He has short, slightly curly, bright yellow hair that is orange in the shadows and reaches his chin. His skin is a very light gray that has a hint of blue. His eyebrows are thick and black and bend around the inner corners of his eyes, which are light red with maroon pupils. The "whites" of his eyes are actually yellow. His is short, only 5'4" (~163 cm), lean, and slightly androgynous. On both of his arms, his right leg, his back, and his stomach, he has green glowing marks, sort of like tribal tattoos, which glow so strongly that they are visible even through his clothing. [Glowies]

Clothing: Most of his clothing is several shades darker than his skin in the same hue and skintight to the extent that it seems like part of his skin. It's very asymmetrical. His garment is one piece that wraps around his body as shown. His boots have the same skintight look as his clothing. He also wears an ankle-lengthcape that is neon-teal inside and a darker gray-blue on the reverse with pale, geometric markings on the back. (For those of you who've played the game: yes, like Midna's. No, I don't actually know what they look like. At all. I just know they're there.) The cape is held on by a neon-teal chain that is attached with two large buttons. The buttons resemble the Sols, eclipsed by a crescent moon. He also wears earrings made of a dark gray, gritty metal: two in his right ear, connected by a thin chain of the same neon-green, and three hoops in his left ear.

Background: (Here's where it gets really spoilerific. However I also make a lot of stuff up. Just warning you.) Jindal was born into a tribe of ruthless, warlike nomads who made their living by raiding any town or settlement they came across. Like many members of his tribe, he learned to fight and use weapons and magic from an early age. When he was ten, his father overhtrew and murdered the current leader of the tribe and declared himself king. The new king soon revealed a plan for leading the tribe to absolute power over Hyrule: break into the Sacred Realm and seize the power of the Triforce. Unfortunately, when the tribe's members combined their magic to force their way in, they incurred the wrath of the goddesses, who banished them to an alternate dimension and placed a curse on them. More than anything else, the curse was to prevent the tribe from trying to take over the world again--after the curse, no member of the tribe could feel any sort of violent or ambitious emotion without immediately feeling painful remorse; everyone in the tribe was instilled with a deep, unshakable fear of and respect for the goddesses; and everyone was filled with a numb contentment.
Since Jindal's parents had both died in the backlash of their magic, Jindal became the new ruler of the tribe, which came to call itself the Twili and the realm in which they now lived the Twilight. He refused the title "king," since he associated it with his father, and chose instead to be the Twilight prince. Because the curse precluded any violence or ambition, Jindal had a very peaceful reign, and despite his initial youth and inexperience, he became a well-loved prince. He married a Twili woman named Sirinka, and together they had a son [who has not yet been given a name] who peacefully took the throne after Jindal's death of old age. His life should have ended there.
However, shortly after Jindal's passing, several of the Twili began to claim they had seen him in their dreams. When the dreams persisted, the Twili began to believe that the goddesses had given Jindal back to them as a guardian deity for the Twilight Realm. They were, at the time, completely wrong; however, the goddesses were touched by the love the Twili had for their deceased leader. They gave Jindal, along with Sirinka and Jindal's most loyal guard, Dawdon, new life as the immortal guardians of Twilight.
In doing so, the goddesses somewhat restored the emotional range that these three can feel. While violence and true ambition are still beyond them, they can better remember what they were once like, and they do not feel unnatural contentment like most Twili do. Most distressing to Jindal, however, is the fact that he now realizes that he and all his people are incomplete, manipulated beings.

Personality: A mess of contradictions, Jindal is never happy. His soul is constantly warring against itself, because while he has some degree of freedom to feel whatever he would like to, the ideas of what he "should" feel (and especially the shame of what a violent creature he once was, which is ground into every Twili mind) are still strong in his mind. As a result, he spends most of his time lying to himself and everyone he comes into contact with about how he feels. These lies are not really successful; in fact, he is the only one who believes them, mainly because of the sly tone and obviously bitter smile that usually accompanies them.

Poses and Moods: If there are other people nearby (other than Dawdon or Sirinka), Jindal stands confidentally, but if not, his posture is generally very guarded. He feels most comfortable when sitting (he can sit in midair... talented guy!) curled up, holding his knees. As for expression--when he's alone, he might look sulky or worried, and when he's with others he will wear a bitter smile. I mean it when I say that he's never happy.

The shortified version:
Shorty
Age: Immortal, but appears to be around 20.

The cape is held on by a neon-teal chain that is attached with two large buttons. The buttons bear an intricate design in light green, eclipsed by a crescent moon. He also wears earrings made of a dark gray, gritty metal: two in his right ear, connected by a thin chain of the same neon-green, and three hoops in his left ear.

Background: Jindal was once the ruler of a tribe cursed with contentment, apathy, and passivity. Before the curse, the tribe was ruthlessly warlike, but when they tried to take over the world, the gods of the land had to put a stop to their actions, and the curse was how they did so. Now the members of this tribe barely remember what they were once like, and any flicker of memory of the time produces a feeling of deep shame.
When Jindal died, he became a guardian deity for the tribe, but at the same time, some of the curse was lifted from his mind. He began to question things again and became frustrated with the fact that the gods had manipulated his mind and the minds of everyone in his tribe, almost to the point of hating the gods who gave him new life. However, the ideas of what he "should" feel are still unshakable in his mind; as a result, he spends much of his time lying to himself and everyone around him about what he truly feels. These lies are not really successful; in fact, he is the only one who believes them, mainly because of the sly tone and obviously bitter smile that usually accompanies them. Jindal is never happy. He divides his time between feeling self-pity and worrying about the fate of his tribe.
