Take Me Away

I can hear the sound in the distance
The soft drops of rain,
The gutteral roll of thunder,
And a gentle scream of pain.

Chains that drag are clinking
Across the floor made of rock
And on the wall the ticking
Of an old grandfather clock.

Take me away from here,
This land of reality
Release me in a dream land
Away from the brutality.

I lift my head from the water
That keeps on drawing me in
So tempting to just leave it
And drown away the sin.

The rain hits on the window
I wish to reach for it
But now I must lie down
In the bed that I do fit.

Take me away from my troubles
You know just what to do
Into a dream unlike the real world
Oh sleep how I adore you.

Loneliness

Once upon a time I felt alone,
As I sat on my bed at home,
The lights were off but the moon did glow
Like a lamp turned down and set near the window.

From this light upon the wall
Extended from my body something did fall
As black as the nighttime sky
And as quiet as a butterfly.

This creature sat and stared at me
Its outline was the only feature I could see
It waited and watched all through the night
When morning came it began to fade in the brighter light.

It stayed with me as light as it was
But only left me once
An hour later it appeared again
And once more I had a friend.

Alone no more I realize
A friend I'll always have
A shadow that will always change
As I go along.

Disconnected

Once there was a puppet,
She had very many strings,
Thin and shiny but always there.

Many friends surrounded her,
Each kept a string for themselves,
And tugged her here,
And tugged her there,
Until the strings did snap.

Crumpled now upon herself
The little puppet cried,
And within her hand she clung
The last string that's her own.

Now this puppet keeps this string
Very close to her heart.
To save until there'll one day be
When another puppet needs a string.

High

The very first high I ever had
Was when I was a little kid.
Without many things to do
Spinning was all I ever did.

Round and round,
I just can't stop,
Spinning and spinning,
Like a top.

Until at last like I always did,
I fell over to the ground
And I still remember from being a kid
Watching the world move around.

Now that I'm older
I don't do that anymore.
Now that I'm bigger
It makes me sick and my head grow sore.

When my heart beats fast,
I can feel that old high
When "he" walks in the room
I can feel my pulse rise.

Dizzy just like the good old days,
The room spins round again.
I enjoy it and smile through and through
Because the fact of the matter is that I like you.

Valentine's

A candy heart and a chocolate piece,
A common gift on this day.
A pretty card and a boquet of flowers,
The cost was not much to pay.

For to see a face become so bright,
With such a small token,
And to see eyes twinkle with light,
Leaves words not needed to be spoken.

Take care of those you truly love,
For only on this day,
Does it seem to truly show,
Just how far one will go,
To make a smile stay.

Late At Night

A temperate body sits
Captivated by a strange but familiar light,
While tips and taps echo
Late at night.

The moon shines high above,
Its light is not so bright,
Casting barely any shadows
Late at night.

A solitary figure
Standing just in sight
Awaits another's arrival
Late at night.

A cat gives a yowl
In mocking blight
Sitting under the streetlamp
Late at night.

The other does not show
In even the palest light
Alone and still waiting
Late at night.

Tell Me

Tell me you love me,
Even if it's not true.

Tell me you want me,
Whether or not you do.

Tell me I'm pretty,
Even if it's a lie.

Tell me I'm stunning,
Or at least try.

Tell me how much you would miss me when I'm gone.

Tell me you will wait and leave the light on.

Tell me to stay away,
I'm not welcome anymore.

Tell me to go home,
And then close the door.

Tell me you hate me,
Even if it's not true.

Please, tell me you love me,
Because I love you.

Time...
Time passes quickly for most. For the young female, it seemed to be going a little too slow. Her patience was being tested as she grew and her strength, especially in her wings, developed. Pacing through the den for what felt like the thousandth time that day, she waited for her mother to return. Her father had left earlier that day to go on his patrol through their territory. Normally, she would go with him but today was special. Mother was coming to take her on her first flight.

Her large ears perked forward as she heard the familiar rushing of wind that signaled her mother's arrival. Letting out an excited roar-bark, she ran from the den and raced over to the clearing where her mother could land. She watched the way her mother's wings pumped at the air while she landed, and she could no longer contain her joy, circling, leaping, and twisting about.

Her mother chuckled softly as she set down and lowered her head to gaze with one large eye at her daughter. "Ready?"

"Yes! I've been ready my whole life!" She moved between her mother's legs and looked up at her.

"Very well. Here we go." With her mother easily five times larger than herself, she was readily scooped up in her talons and lifted away into the air. Higher and higher they went, until the trees that were so large, were now nothing more than tiny twigs standing up. Positioning her wings, she took a deep breath and then was released.

Falling.... That's what was happening. She was falling and she didn't know how to stop herself. Her hands...no, her claws grasped at the air, trying to find something that she could catch onto and stop her downward trek. Above her, she could hear the downward sweep of her mother's wings against the sky and below, she could hear the sound of her father's whines. He was worried for her. She could tell that he was and he had every reason to be, for she was worried too.

With great effort, she pulled her wings in toward her body, but the wind was stronger than the muscles in the large structures were and they were wrenched painfully back open, causing her to flip over. Looking up at her mother, she could see her own mane now as it blasted around her elongated face. "Help," she cried out with her mind at her mother as she began to descend faster. Whether the great dragon above heard her plea or not, she did not know. Lashing her long tail about and twisting her body like a cat, she managed to flip herself back over. She almost wished that she hadn't. The ground was much closer to her now and her large crimson eyes became larger. The natural membrane over her eyes, protecting them from the cold wind.

Below, a giant maned wolf paced back and forth through the trees, his muzzle turned up toward the sky and silver eyes watching her. He let out a low roar-bark. It wasn't for her. He was calling to her mother, his own plead to her to stop the descent of his daughter. As he moved around, he flickered in and out of view, his worry making it difficult to maintain a solid form.

Panting heavily, the young draganine extended her four legs out below her, bracing herself for the impact to the ground. Her eyes shut tight and felt a tree branch smack against her left wing, catching in and forcing her to turn onto her side. Another branch struck across her flank and she growled with pain. Over and over, she was beat by the thick branches of the trees. Her only saving grace, the obsidian scales covering her body. Craning her neck to keep her head up high, she let out a defeated roar and with a final crack and a sickening thud, she hit the wet earth.
