It rained heavily this afternoon. I was sitting on the couch, watching tv and ocasionally looking outside, when a friend of mine called, he needed help with something. I didn't want to go anywhere on that killer weather but that friend sounded desperate so I had to go. I got dressed, took my umbrella and went down. Some kids were near the exit, upset because the rain had spoiled their fun. I walked out and opened my umbrella, ready to face the rain... and that's when I saw her. A very skinny young girl was waiting outside, clutching to a big, black umbrella. The girl seemed to wait for someone. I realised that she was looking at me so I raised my umbrella and looked properly at the girl. My jaw dropped. It was Alicia.
It was a different Alicia, not like the one I used to know a few months ago. She had terribly lost weight and her face was looking awfully pale. Her cheeks were hollow and her eyes had shadows. No wonder I didn't recognise her, she was nothing like the Alicia I knew.
She opened her mouth to say something but couldn't. After a few failed attempts, tears started to fall from her eyes. I felt miserable. I tried hard to tell myself that it's not my fault, that it was her choice and I'm not responsible.
But seeing her like that made me felt miserable, no matter what my inner voice tried to tell me. I passed her and continued walking. For a moment, I feared she might really kill herself.
I didn't heard the rain anymore while I was walking on the street, I was thinking about that girl who destroyed herself and wanted to take me with her in the process.
