Revolution Stage:
Madina Lake (never showed up)
Styles of Beyond (pretty cool)
The Bled (awesome front man)
Saosin (Didn't watch them)
Mindless Self Indulgence (KICKED ******** a**)
Main Stage:
Julien-K (they were okay)
Placebo (eh.)
HIM (pretty good except he smoked during every other song)
Taking Back Sunday (WOOOOOO!!!!)
My Chemical Romance (I have mixed feelings about them :])
Linkin Park (amazing. simply amazing.)
So I woke up yesterday morning like I usually do, got dressed, ate breakfast, whatever. By about 11 or so I was bouncing around the house because I was so excited. It felt like Christmas I was so hyper. When I saw Kyle's car come into the driveway I just went, "oh my god." And then I flipped out some more.
Kyle came in with his bro-in-law Serin and met my mom, and then soon my dad. Then we left for Taco Bell for lunch, where I gots a delicious quesidilla thingy. After that we just went straight to Walnut Creek. Kyle's sister dropped us off, and we waited in line for awhile at the front where they were checking bags. I thought they weren't going to let me take my camera but I guess they didn't notice it (you had to empty your pockets and all that jazz)
Soon as we got through the gate I saw Cameron and later Liz, Zach, Izzy, and Claire. We talked for awhile, and then we all went through these sprinkles they set up on this tent. That felt awesome, but I didn't really feel the heat until later.
We went to the Revolution stage, which was to the right, and as we passed by people were handing out free condoms XDD since one of the sponsors was Trojan. So that was interesting.
Kyle, Serin and I were hanging out at the stage for awhile, waiting for Madina Lake to come on, but they never showed up so we watched Styles of Beyond do their set, and then The Bled came on after that. The frontman is awesome. He was all, "Thanks to My Chemical Romance for this wonderful cake. Does anyone particularly like chocolate cake?" And he opened the cake and threw it into the crowd, where a guy got hit square in the face. But yeah, when the Bled started playing was when the heat really got bad. My eyes had started to hurt, even with my sunglasses on, and I was sweating everywhere.
Then we needed water so we bought some RIDICULOUS OVERPRICED FOUR DOLLAR BOTTLES OF WATER. Ugh. And then we headed down to the merch booth, where we saw our buddies again and we sat in the shade for awhile. Then we went to the merch booth (Saosin was on right now) where I got my purple Projekt Revolution shirt and I saw my friend Megan. Kyle got his shirt as well, then we headed back to watch the end of Saosin, and as most of the people left we zoomed up to the front. I was like hell yes. So technically we were about third row for Mindless Self Indulgence, even though there were no seats and it was one big ******** moshpit. But MSI rocked my face off. Jimmy put on some pink fairy wings during one song, and busted out the DDR pad on another. That man rocked my face...I don't even know what else to say about him. It was awesome.
After that we were exhausted once more (by now we had spent about 16 dollars on water, two each for me and Kyle) and we went to go lay on the lawn and do nothing while our feet healed and we caught our breath. We bought water for a third and fourth time while just laying there, and we talked about how awesome MSI was. Then eventually the gates for the main stage opened up, and we got our seats. We were on the right, row N, so we were pretty close. All our friends had lawn seats, except for Megan I think, so I didn't see them again.
Julien-K went on, then Placebo, then HIM. All of these bands were just okay to me. I liked a couple of Julien-K's songs because they were techno-y, and Nine Inch Nails-esque. I found the lead singer of Placebo's voice to be annoying, and as I said earlier HIM smoked the whole time, and that bothered me, because I hate the smell of smoke and about a thousand people there were doing it.
Finally Taking Back Sunday came on, and it was amazing. Matt (the bassist) is even shorter in person XDD. But it was awesome to see them in front of me. Kyle and Serin went to go get dinner at this time, since they don't really like TBS, and me and this other guy next to me were screaming the songs. I didn't get any pics but I got some videos that may or may not go on youtube. Adam (vocals) talked a lot between songs and I noticed at bit of a country accent, and that was cool. Fred (lead guitar) started shredding a bit when they started talking about his favorite band going on tour again (I totally forgot who it was and I just heard the name on the radio). Fred goes, "Adam why don't do you that kick-over-the-head thing?" and Adam's like "Naw man my pants are too tight." And that's why I love those guys. But they definately rocked it. Unfortunately Mark (drummer) couldn't be there because he hurt his back, but another guy who had learned all their songs in two hours subbed for him, and we all cheered for him.
After that MCR came on, and I had to use the bathroom so I left right as they came on. Their opening was pretty cool though, they had flames and such shooting out. It was very dramatic, and I liked that, and I like a few of their songs, but, I don't really listen to them. They played for an hour, and Serin (who hates them) was pissed off and had a margarita or something. It was just kind of annoying when all the girls screamed at the top of their lungs and broke the sound barrier. At one point Gerard told all the guys to take their shirts off, and we were just like "...wow." Again, interesting and different, but yeah...
It was a good half an hour at least until Linkin Park came on. It gave me a chance to get my voice ready, and relax my feets. When they did come on, all hell broke lose. I swear every single person jumped from their seats (or from the grass) and screamed their head off. They were behind this curtain for their opening, and then the curtain came down, or came up, I can't remember. It doesn't matter because LINKIN PARK WAS THERE. And the more I thought about it, the more I realize I may never see them again.
I can't remember the setlist since it was an hour an and half, but they played old stuff, new stuff, everything: Cure for the Itch, Somewhere I Belong, In the End, Crawling, Bleed it Out, What I've Done, From the Inside, Numb, Shadow of the Day, The Little Things Give You Away (dedicated to Hurricane Katrina victims), No More Sorrow. And that wasn't even half of it, it's just all I can remember at the moment. But it was so loud and so mindblowing. I remember at one point Chester was screaming, and I saw him on the big screen, and I was screaming too, and so was everyone else, and it seemed like we were all screaming the same breath. Everything and everyone was so unified.
They played a couple of songs or pieces of songs acoustically, and Mike (who couldn't stop smiling throughout the entire show) brought out the piano and/or acoustic guitar. And Chester's screaming was so perfect. I don't know how he manages to scream like he does for ten years and still sound so awesome.
After that we left, exhausted, deaf, sore, and like, ******** or something. I burned so many calories. I don't think I've ever jumped around that much in my life. Even when I felt like my ribs were going to explode I kept jumping. Anyway, we headed to the parking lot, and they were handing out free posters. Another bonus. We eventually found Kyle's dad's car, and got out in relatively little traffic, which was good. We stopped at the gas station for some water. I got like a liter for 2 dollars -_-. And I'm still drinking it right now! [/end water rant]
Then we stopped at Serin's house to drop him off, and Kyle used the bathroom. Then they dropped me off. I kind of stumbled into the house, mumbled something or other to my mom, and went to sleep.
All in all, phenomenal day. Best first rock concert. Definitely set the bar very high for whatever concert I see next.
