Eternal War: Gillians Log
Magic: power of creation pt. 1
there has been much discussion about the principle of magic. what is it? how is it used? how were we given these abilities? its enough to make any mortalies head spin (mortalie being the proper name of humans.) but to explain magic is difficult, so ill try to keep it in layman's terms.

you see, magic is the power of creation. it is the ability to exert a non-physical energy from ones spirit and manipulating that energy to give it a physical form in the shape of an element. now this is done by the mage channeling his spiritual energy into a focus point. these points can be the palm, the tip of a wand or staff, or if one is mentally capable, a spot off the body, say on someone else.

now once that energy is gathered at the focus point, the mage has to use his will to give it life. much like concentrating on a spoon will cause it to bend, a mage must focus his mind of the properties of the element he wishes to create. so for fire, he would have to think of burning, heat, and the smell of smoke. the mixture of the mental energy and the spiritual energy mix to create the element desired.

now before we go further, i need to explain the body for a moment. in the body there are three energy types; physical, as in the body itself. mental, as in the power of knowledge and imagination. and spiritual, as in the power of ones own life force. a mage must be able to channel his own life into his hand, then use his will to bend that energy into an element of his desire. it is the mixture of these two forces that create the element, much like it is the mixture of physical energy and mental energy that allows a geomancer to bend the already existing earth, but thats another topic entirely.

now what a mage can create is limited. there are five elements in this world, they being fire, water, stone, wood, and air. now before the generations of cross breeding, mages could only cast a single element, but with the creation of anima mages, or mixed mages, the casting of other elements is possible. however, anima mages lack the strength an elemental mage has over a certain element.

well i think that about covers how magic is cast, our next lesson will be on the origin of magic.
