The Best Compliment Ever...
I was thinking about the best compliment I've ever gotten. Here it is:

A little history first. I come from a family of very tall people. For example, my sister is 5'9'' and brother is 6'1''. I on the other hand am a teeney weeney 5'3''.

Okay then, so I was visiting family a while back. There I was sitting with my cousins, having a nice chat. Somehow we started talking about how all the kids in the family got to be so tall. Among the people having this discussion were two boy cousins of mine (6' and 6'1'') and one girl (5'11''). And then there was petite little me. So I made a joke about myself (I am not at all insecure about my height, I love it really, and so I can joke about it). But one of my cousins turns to me and says, you may be shorter than all of us but you're the tallest when it comes to character...
Aww... I was left speechless. They actually think that way about me? It's so sweet. I get all misty every time I think of the incident.

There it is, the best compliment I have gotten (yet). At least that's the one I can remember. There was also another really nice one, but I'll write that some other day if I have the time and inclination...

Apples the way I used to draw them!!!
I am inspired to write in this journal. I have time on my hands so here I go...

Today, as I was making salad, I picked up an apple that had a little leaf attached to the stem. I was stunned!!! Could this be? Finally an apple the way it is drawn in children's story books! I always drew my apples with leafs on the stem as a kid, but I don't ever remember seeing one. The stems were always leafless. Well, there was the time we went apple picking, but those apples don't count. I'm talking about store bought apples.
Oh well, I had to throw that stem and leaf away so I could chop up the apple for my salad. But it was a very thought-provoking incident. It reminded me of the way I used to see the world as a kid. All pretty and perfect. So much hope. I'm still hopeful, but a little cynical too. The apple made me realize that I should never give up...

There you have it, my philosophy for the day. How profound... rolleyes
