The blindingly bright sun rises up, sun rays hitting the water and reflecting into a young girl's shut eyes. She winces in her sleep and mumbles "Five more minutes..." before turning away from the light. A woodpecker begins pecking away at a tree somewhere while more birds join in the chorus by chirping tunes of their own. The girl grumbles and feels around for a pillow. Not finding one, she simply clamps her own hands over her ears, eyes still shut. "Seriously. Five more minutes and I'll get up..." she slurs. As she drones softly back into Slumberland, she feels a tapping on her arm. An insistent tapping. The girl's eyes fly open, revealing their ruby/crimson color, and she quickly turns to see who interrupted her dreaming. Instead of finding a person, the woodpecker from earlier sits perched on her shoulder, its head cocked to the side. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion on how the bird could have gotten into her room in the first place when she realizes where she is. She looks out to the front lawn of the orphanage, watching a caretaker tend to the garden. "How in the world did I end up on the roof?" the girl asks out loud, blinking.

She hears a light chuckle and turns her head toward a blindfolded angel. "Mae!" "Aha, good morning Miss Erika." the angel answers cheerfully, flexing her wings in her crouched position. The girl, Erika, looks back at the ground. "How did I end up here, on the roof?" Erika repeats, squinting her eyes to find the gardener again. Ah, there she was. "There was a bit of a scuffle down below last night, so I flew you up here to keep you out of harm's way. Do you not remember? You were the one who called me out to protect you." Mae explains, looking in no particular direction. Erika continued watching the gardener who was now tending to some rose bushes that were slaughtered, most likely from the 'scuffle' of last night. "No, I don't remember, and quite frankly I don't think I would like to." Erika answers. She frowns, then stands up, turning to Mae. "Come on, let's go get breakfast before the kids eat it all." she says, half smiling.
