When you hear the title 'Godchild' what do you expect? Someone who is loved by everyone? A group of people chosen by god to bring peace to the world? None of those things belong to 'Godchild'. Godchild takes place in '19th century, Victorian-Era England centered on its capital of fog, London'. The Protagonist is Earl Cain Hargreaves, he is 17. From what i can tell he lives with his 10 year old Sister Maryweather and his butler Riff. Riff and Cain are Partners in Crime. They do everything together. They a relationship that is one notch away from being yaoi, although there are some traces of yaoi just not until the end of the serise. Cain is a collector of some sort (I will not tell you what he collects if you want to know read the book.)
This story is a heart-wrenching story of the unloved and the 'cursed'. Don't be fooled by the 'Shojo Beat' Logo on the back of the book and on the front of the book. Just because Most of Shojo Beat Books are Romanitic and Sad that does not mean that this book is Romantic, although it is sad. This book is Very Bloody It's NOT romantic. Godchild is in close relation to a few Manga books. There are some unexpected twists and turns within the last few volumes. There are eight volumes in total I had a little trouble trying to read the book. When I read the back of the book it said 19th century i wasn't to thrilled about that. But regardless I read the book anyway. I turned out that i loved it and it is a very melancholy.
I give this book a 5/5 - Wonderful Characters - Wonderful Plot - Good cliff hangers - The story line connected well - In the itensity of it all there is little bit of humor which gives it a brighter outlook.
Once again if you have a problem with Blood, Decapatated Bodies, and Other Bodily things (that I can't mention because it will ruin the story) then don't read the book. Also Don't BE Fooled By the Shojo Beat Logo
Godchild is By Kaori Yuki Also Kaori Yuki is the same Manga-ka who did Angel Sanctuary
