Hiroko's Mind
Hey, people. It's just me, Hiroko, doing what I do best: rant and talk about random junk. That's basically all there is to it. Wanna see?
Twilight flame this, Twilight flame that...
Alright. Should probably repost this later as a thread in the Twilight forum, but unfortunately, I'll probably be ignored, or flamed.

Out of boredom for the past few weeks or so, I've been floating around down in the Twilight Saga Forum, out of curiosity to see what kind of things were being posted there. On my trips down there, something has been bothering me a bit, and hey, looky-here, I have a journal to write it all out in.

Here's my number one complaint about the Twilight Forum, above else: The Twilight Haters and their need to completely and utterly bash the brains out of those who even admit to being a casual fan of the series.

Seriously, the minute you so much as say "I like Twilight," your I.Q. level has apparently dropped some 100 points in the eyes of the haters, and your voice and opinion now seems non-credible.

Haters walk into those forums with this stereotypical image of a Twilight fan in mind, and automatically label anyone who say they are are fan in such a way. This is hardly fair for those of us (and yes, I do mean "us"; I myself am a Twilight fan) who are actually normal, reasonable and decent fans. You don't see me spamming people's threads about how "OMG EDWARD'S SO SMEXY!!!!" or that "JACOB IS SO HAWT!!!!" like most rabid fangirls do. And that's another thing that some Twilight haters fail to realize: All of the fangirls are fans, but not ALL the fans are fangirls.

I personally do not care much about Edward's or Jacob's "hotness." Bella is pretty plain, boring, and, let's face it, a wimpy damsel in distress. Heck, do you want to know who my favorite character in the entire series is? Seth Clearwater. I'll bet you anything, many Twilight fangirls probably don't even know who poor little Seth is.

Seth Clearwater is the youngest of the werewolves/shapeshifters. He is the younger brother of Leah Clearwater, the only girl member of the werewolves/shapeshifters. He is also the most naive and innocent of the tribe. It's because of this naivete that he's very accepting of everyone, including the Cullens, which the rest of the tribe are inclined to hate due to them being vampires. He is a very sweet and kind character, a little silly and is a little on the clingy side to those he looks up to, such as both Jacob and Edward. He looks up to both of them as though they were his older brothers. Overall, he's a very unbiased character, ironically a role model the other characters should probably look up to.

Seth is an adorable character to me. That's why I like him so much.

But of course, to the Twilight Hater, I might as well be either a) an Edward fangirl, or b) a Jacob fangirl.

What Twilight Haters fail to realize is that, yes, there IS such thing as a Twilight fan who agrees with you on the series' flaws. This is what I mean by calling myself a reasonable fan. I know that the series has a ton of flaws. I can see why the haters hate the books the way they do. Heck, this is why I'm a fan in the first place: I can see past those flaws and laugh at them. I can read the series and mock the lacking plot, laugh at how cheesy the series gets here and there, and scoff at the lack of violence we were led to believe to happen at the end of the series. I don't understand why this concept is so hard for haters to grasp. Apparently, in order to be a fan of something, you must "unconditionally and irrevocably love EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMN THING" about it. Otherwise you're obviously "not a fan." Seriously? Then that would mean that no one in this planet is a true fan, because let's face it: deep down, everything you absolutely love has at least some fault in it that you have an issue with. Does that mark you as not being a fan for not liking certain aspects of, say, a video game, a manga, or a book? My point is, there is such a thing as a fan who sees faults in the thing they like.

Overall, it's not fair to label all fans of a series like Twilight as being "mentally retarded Twitards," because in reality, not all of them are. Those of us who are actually mature and reasonable fans are being grossly misrepresented, and with the Twilight Haters' attitudes towards any and all of the fans, it's any wonder why many mature fans remain silent to escape being labeled and harassed.
