Week Thirty-Six: Number Nine Wiggety Wham Wham Wozzle! Nine months at Gaia! If "Gaia babies" existed, which I still think never will, I would be having my digital man-baby about now. The First Mimzy Gaia launched its very first movie promotion this week for New Line Cinemas "The Last Mimzy", along with a quest and a promo item. Some users were upset that our very first quest after the New User Quest was a simple "Go-watch-the-trailer" quest, and to be honest, I was a little disappointed too. On the other hand, considering that this gave me a great excuse to work more on the Quest System, and that we had under a week to get it ready, it turned out pretty well. (Although some of us almost lost our minds trying to get it right in such a short period of time) I was asked this week whether or not I thought these promotions were ultimately a good thing or bad thing for Gaia, and I feel pretty strongly that they're a good thing. If we happen to make a few bad MCs in a given month and we don't earn enough to pay for our servers and staff in that period, we now have other sources of income to fall back upon. Which is good, because while I fully endorse the hobo lifestyle, I would much prefer not to have to live it. Triple-Booked: The Trilogy I am writing this at 6:00 in the morning because for the next 6 weeks I'm going to be so busy that I have to write my journal entries in my sleep. I am actually still in my pajamas, sleep-typing this. I'm sure I'll wake up and be pleasantly surprised by the kwality of my werk. I often talk about how hard developers at Gaia work - for example, I e-mailed another dev at 6:00 PM last night with a problem I needed solved when he got in. He sent me the solution at 5:30 AM this morning. I've worked a few weekends, and there are ALWAYS people at HQ giving up their weekends to work on one project or another also. I spent about a month working long hours to get the Valentine's Day event ready, followed quickly by the Gaia 4th Anniversary, followed suddenly by the Last Mimzy Quest. Pretty much for every single week for the next 3 weeks, I have another crazy deadline which I fully intend to meet. C'est la vie of a Gaia programmer! In Memoriam: Fort Gaia Someone left a big pile of boxes in a hallway recently. I passed by it a few times, and on the third time, someone had stacked up the boxes, covered them in toy soldiers, and put up a sign that said "Fort Gaia. est. Mar 3rd, 2007" (or whenever the date actually was - I'm at home, so I can't check what it says). People flew helicopters around it and played with it and it was a standing monument to the awesomeness that is Gaia HQ. Eventually though, the garbage had to go. The sign now reads "Fort Gaia. est. Mar 3rd, 2007 / Destroyed Mar 7th, 2007" Also Yesterday, when I walked in to the office, there was a crowd of people standing around who threw a monkey at me. Don't ask.

	Fleep!! You are NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE DIGITAL MAN-BABIES! I will come up there and bop you so hard, your hair will fall out! I'm really interested in seeing how the promotionals will go, I've have very good experience with those in sales (bicycle and guitar), and I've seen it go badly (AOL). It's also a good way to keep the company afloat when the user base isn't as generous as need be. Plus, being able to pick and choose what advertising you use! I liked the Mimzy quest, it wasn't spectacular, but it was entertaining. I mainly liked the ending, where we were put into the Mimzy guild and could discuss the weird science!

	I always love reading your journal entries. I get a kick out of them, every time. ;D Anyhow, I see nothing wrong for Gaia to promote something like, The Last Mimzy. In fact, I'm so totally looking forward to seeing it. I never realized how much work the events took. But, I hope you know, that I'm one of those users who appreciates every bit of the event. Yes, I complain every now and then, but don't we all? Aaww! That's sounds like so much fun. It's too bad that the fort needed to be destroyed. But... a monkey? I hope it wasn't a real monkey. o.O;

	Quite awesome! smile Get some sleep, man! For college I plan to major in Architectural Design/Engineering, but I'll also be taking Computer Science/Programming as a close second. A wild tangent, I know! mrgreen Software development fascinates me. gonk I've already learned more about Adobe (Rest in peace Macromedia) Flash than my school can offer, and I can't help but want more. 	love the fort part xd it's fun to hear about gaia hq antics. also the cow/dolphin thing made me laugh. It seems like it would be hard to work for gaia, but also really awesome at the same time. maybe when i graduate college (or drop out) i will get a job there, doing nothing :3

	I'm glad Gaia has a income to fall back on. I'm just worried that 2-3 years the site will get sold to some company and become like the infamous "N" site. shutters I've seen it happen. I don't care if theres 3 big banners plastered on every page as long as the ad mins remember to think of the members along with keeping the site a financial success.
