She left home as soon as she saw the car turn the street corner, taking time before hand to stuff the keys in her back jeans' pocket and quietly shut the door. Walking on the other side of the street, going down a few blocks, turning to the park. Trudging through two acres 'till she hit a brook, jumping over some rocks, sliding and slipping on some mud, mud plastering her sneakers. Picking herself up, despite the many falls, and finally getting over in one piece as she went to her favorite spot.

Ilena combed her black hair with her fingers, softly flinging it over her shoulder. Lying on the grass was one of the few moments she spent in peace without having to pick up her little sister from elementary or do five hours of homework. In fact, she was content having the whole field to herself. Cozying up to the sunlight, she smiled and watched the water shimmer as she closed her eyes.

She spent a few minutes breathing; thinking... slowly falling asleep.
"Ilena..." a soft voice called out. "Ilena..."
Ilena looked around. It was dark, and by the color of the sky, it looked to be about 8 pm. So late. "Ilenaa..." the voice called again.
"Who..?" she answered back. The sound was coming from... where was it coming from?
"Ilena...!" a hand tapped her back. She turned around to see Sari, her little sister, staring at her, green eyes glimmering fiercely. Ilena stared back. What was her 6-year old sister doing here?
"Sari... did Dad take you here?" she blinked.
"No, silly! You did," Sari's brow dipped as she spoke. "Can we go now?"
Ilena nodded, taking her by the hand so she wouldn't walk away. They walked to the brook, and Ilena began to walk down. And then she felt Sari's hand slip away.
"Mother, I brought Ilena..." she heard Sari's voice slightly above the bubbling ripples.
"Sari, stop; don't say that!" she looked up to see Sari looking into the water.
"But Ilena... mother's been looking for you," came the innocent reply as Ilena turned her back yet again.
"Sari, get on my back so I can take you across," her voice was colder as it was beginning to get dark.
"Okayy Ilena... but hurry - mom's waiting for us!" was the remark as she gently lifted her sister on her shoulders.
Ilena trudged through the mud and water yet again. It was freezing. "Sari, you know mom's been dead for two years. Don't say stuff like that," she said calmly.
"Mom said she misses you."
"How would you know that?"
"She's missed you for the longest time." her voice was lighter, arms wrapped around her neck even more.
"Sari, shut up! Quit saying that! Mom can't talk! She's DEAD!!" Ilena growled, ever more pissed.
"Where do you go when you're dead?"
"I don't know... heaven, hell?" Ilena muttered.
... silence...
Suddenly, Sari let out a scream. Except, it was a scream of joy. "Hi mom!"
Ilena felt a chill penetrate the very core of her body. Standing, or rather, sitting, on a rocking chair was her mother. Amanda Earle Perret, not looking a day older than 36, swinging back and forth. Her very being glowed as she looked up from the book she was reading -- and smiled, her green eyes glowing. "Ilena... my baby... I've waited so long," she smiled... a perfect, pearl white smile. After all, she was the weather lady... a long, long time ago.
