New Hope: Prologue, how it came about
New Hope

Prologue

50 years ago, there was a prediction made by the top scientists of the time. The scientists predicted the sun would go nova in the year 2021. Fifty years ago scientists brought this horrible knowledge to their respective governments in hopes that the governments would get past their differences and work towards a common goal to save humanity. Things started moving slowly then. Even though there was still a war going on, many allied countries started to plan.

The US had a top-secret plan already in progress by 1977. NASA, the United States space program, was sending up two interstellar satellites called Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. The public thought these satellites were going to go on a “planetary tour” recording data of our solar system and sending it back to Earth. The two Voyagers did so, but they were on a different mission. They were going to go farther then any satellite had ever gone before, to the outer limits of the solar system and beyond. By the year 2002 both voyagers were well out of the solar system and sending back data about other solar systems in our galaxy.

The United States shared their knowledge with their allies, but this knowledge included much more then what their satellites had found. It included space technology they had found long before the first man on the moon.

In the year of 1947 something extraordinary happened in the little town of Roswell New Mexico. It had been a quiet day in little Roswell, nothing of great importance had happened, that was until a bright light flashed across the sky and a falling object was spotted. The military claimed it was a downed weather balloon, but the rumors said otherwise. Little did anyone realize those rumors were true. It wasn’t a crashed weather balloon, but a UFO with advance technology and the mutilated forms of two strange creatures. That wasn’t the only incident of a crashed UFO. In 1965 there was a crashed UFO in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania. Again the military said it was not a UFO, just a crashed Soviet satellite. Again, it was an advance alien space ship.

At the time of both crashes, the technology could not be used or figured out. The top scientists in every field were brought in to try and figure out how to make the advance technology work. Each piece was taken apart and then put back together again in perfect order, but the technology made little to no sense. That is, until the year of 1969 when a young scientist lost control after 10 years of study.

In 1969, a young scientist at the age of 32 was working with his team on a piece of alien technology that looked like a bracelet of some sort. They had taken it apart hundreds of times, put it back together just as much in perfect order, they had even put it on in an attempt to make it work. Nothing they did had any effect. After 10 years of working with this technology, the young scientist finally lost his temper with this particular piece of alien technology. He slammed it on his wrist, and in a burst of inspiration (or insanity) he put all his concentration into the bracelet. At that moment the bracelet shook and the young scientists mug of coffee shot across the room and smashed against the far wall. At that moment, the scientists started to realize what the technology needed for it to work. After many countless experiments, the scientists were very positive in their findings. They believed that the only way to make this technology to work, was if the user had higher mental functions. Scientists discovered that people with higher mental functions, were also people that claimed to have psychic abilities.

Countless experiments were done; many people who claimed to have strange abilities were taken to secret research facilities to work with the alien technology. In the end, the scientists were right. The only problem in 1969 was, what could the technology be used for if only psychics could use it?

It was only 2 years later that the scientists and the governments knew exactly how this technology could be used. In the year 1971 scientists predicted the destruction of the Sun and with it, the solar system. It was this turn of event that helped the allied countries to start the construction of colony ships that would take a select group of people out of the solar system and towards safety.

With the construction underway for the colony ships, also known as “bases”, the debate on who should be selected for the bases became a major topic. At this time all the countries agreed that people couldn’t be selected in 1971, since that would make them over 50 years old when the bases were sent off into space. The fact was, not all the countries agreed that only psychics should be allowed on the bases. The US was not one of them. The scientists of the US had already brought this subject forward to their government. If the launch and survival of the bases were to be successful, then only psychics and people of psychic family origin families should be selected.
By 1979, eight years after the prediction and two after launch, the Voyager satellites were already near Jupiter. By this time, the base layouts had been made and construction was in progress. The US and several other countries were still trying to convince the remainder countries to only except psychics onto the bases. It was believed that psychics would be the “New Generation” of humans. Even though the governments were not collecting psychics until the year 2001, records were being kept of all known people with psychic powers and their families. Many scientists were still debating about whether or not psychic powers were passed down from parent to child, or if they only surfaced in a person at random.

The young scientist that had accidentally discovered how to use the alien technology was encouraged to get married and have children, if only to see if psychic powers were genetic traits. He had 3 children, the oldest was born in 1980, the second born in 1981, and the third being born in 1983. The two youngest showed signs of having some sort of psychic power. His two youngest were placed onto a list to be monitored, and if they really did have psychic powers, to be selected to be sent to one of the bases.

Years passed and rules were placed by all the countries for how to select base personnel, how the bases should be constructed, what powers were known, how training would take place, and most importantly, what kind of powers were needed for the most important job on the base. The Matrix. By the year 2001, people 30 and younger that had psychic powers were being searched for in secret. The governments had all agreed that by 2021, no one over 50 should be on base. This was to ensure that only people that would be able to “start families” on the base could and would. It would also ensure a type of population control on the base. To many elderly people that couldn’t reproduce on the base would make the population drop way to low and inbreeding would occur. To many young people would mean not enough specially trained personnel. The age limit seemed like a very good idea.
All over the world bases were being constructed at break neck speeds. Ten bases were constructed. In all there were only a 2 in China, 1 in Russia, 1 in Europe, 1 in the UK, 2 in Africa, 1 in Australia, and 3 in the United States. There wouldn’t be enough psychics in the world for anymore bases. By the year 2015 a problem soon emerged. Not all the matrix’s collected were being chosen by the Matrix Computers. So far, only 4 of the 10 bases had Matrix’s that would fully connect with the Matrix Computers. Having a full connection was crucial for the initial launch. The Bases needed all the power and concentration the Matrix’s had, and if there wasn’t a full connection, the bases would come crashing back to Earth or they might go farther then the moon. There were many powerful psychics fit for the title of Matrix, but they would only be able be of use for when the bases were already in space, to propel or power the bases. The governments of each country were helping each other, to even out the psychic population of each base, to find more psychics, and to make sure each base was fully stocked with parts and emergency supplies. The only problem was that in order to ensure the odds of survival were good, 1 more Matrix that could fully connect had to be found. By this time 15 likely Matrix’s were on the bases, but only 4 had fully connected and the remaining 6 bases had rejected the rest. Time was running short and psychics with enough powers and strength were very rare.

Luckily in 2019, a young girl in Washington State was found. She had fully psychic abilities of unknown and unregistered strength. She was quickly spirited to the closest base to see if she could fully connect. If she couldn’t with that base, she would be taken to another Matrix less base to see if she could fully connect.
She was first taken to the New Hope base in the Cascade Mountain Range, in the same state. The New Hope base was one of the oldest of the ten and had rejected, even killed, all the likely psychics that had tried to connect with the Matrix Computer. In an effort to keep the young girl from trying to refuse, she was immediately connected to the Matrix Computer as soon as she was on base. The experience was painful for the girl, but she was the lat Matrix the governments had been looking for. She had fully and completely connected with the Matrix Computer of the New Hope base.

Now all that was left, was to complete final preparations and to train the girl as fast as possible. The departure date was only a year away. In 2020 all bases would launch on selected dates and start the 2-month journey to reach the outer limits of the solar system where they would wait for the sun to go nova. The resulting wave of energy and radiation would propel the bases faster then the Matrix’s could push them.

Our story begins in the year 2019, when the young girl, and last matrix, is found and taken to the New Hope base.

That was great. With some unnecessary words and small edits in grammar, it'd be perfect! Constructive criticism, mind you. That wasn't a mean of just being...mean. XP
