Censoring doesn't do a damn thing by itself, expect to prolong ignorance. And that can occur no matter what age the person is. However, censoring is particular an issue with minors because no minor can choose to have anything in their life the way they might want it, it's completely illegal for them to have that power. That power belongs solely to, as I'm sure you know, the parents or guardians.
Now, I could get into how a five year old is not the same as a fifteen year old, so lets treat people differently because of the age they happen to be...but I think that is a different can of worms if I went there. So the one thing minors of all ages do have in common is lack of knowledge. They are ignorant of many things, but lose ignorance as they go through life. Time and experience are probably the major factors which influence how ignorant a person stays as they grew, we are all born knowing nothing, completely ignorant, so at least from day zero everyone starts at the same level.
But you may have guessed the factor of how much one's parents or guardians censor the world can ruin this process of losing ignorance. Instead of censoring whatever material concerns the parent that parent ought to show enough respect for their child's ability to learn (thereby losing ignorance) to explain and guide their child through that material.
For instance if little John's mother was going to have a Hysterectomy his parents might censor this fact completely by saying mommy is just going on a business trip she'll be back soon. Completely censoring is not needed, nor is going into the details about how the ovaries attach to the uterus by the fallopian tubes, but in mommy case just the uterus is being removed for medical reasons. You can say the facts without getting deep into the facts, mommy is going to see some good doctors for her tummy. This will help mom so let her know how much your love her and want her to get better soon. Then, this is something I wish people would really do, if little John asks questions for more detailed information answer him in a way you know he'll understand. Isn't it just polite to give an answer you know the person will get? Even if that includes drawing pictures and using crayons if you have to.
I guess I just dislike so much how censoring is the answer for so many. Keeping ignorance is called protecting innocence and then the cycle will continue into the next generation, because what kind of person wouldn't protect innocence? It's quite silly in my opinion. That's why I use the real world for what exactly is being protected, ignorance. And that minor may not know, and certainly has no rights, to decide what to do about their ignorance.
