Life. It is a word worth a God-given existence; a word we must not put of a real dot, but God may. But in actuality, humanity takes grasp of it. More so, anybody could torture it, and manipulate it with the most possible forbidden way. Extra-judicial killing would probably be the worst type of its manifestation. Who on Earth would enthrone a first-class criminal into the head? Not just because killing itself is a sin but merely because of them being the hypocrites. They are actually establishing a beautiful barrier that separates humanity and their real selves burning with the other world’s flame. If somebody sees through these pretentious layer and they learn of it, they would send their forces to stop this person. The bad side becomes void while their work for a temporary innovation would blaze. Furthermore, this wave of anomaly becomes more frequent as time goes by. It has been flooding the Philippines under the administration of President Gloria Arroyo. It swept the lives of almost every critic that reports of the downgrade of the country. That includes the critics who tell of the extra-judicial executions. One of which was the killing of Iglesia Filipina Independiente’s Bishop Alberto Ramento on October 3, 2006, a prominent figure that was against the maltreatment of Human Rights (whom he himself had suffered afterwards). He was known to be a member of an open letter on September 7, 2006, who asked for the President Arroyo to step down from her position since she cannot cease of these extra-judicial killings. There was this agreeable rhetorical on the last year news, “If a bishop can be killed in his room in a convent, is anyone safe in the country? Other instances were the killings earlier than that of Bishop Ramento. They were the peasant leaders actively working for land reform. They were Mr. Vicente B. Denila (shot to death on March 27, 2006), Mr. Rico Adeva (attacked on his way home on April 17, 2006), Mr. Porferio Maglasang Sr. (shot several times on May 17, 2006), Mr. Eladio Dasi-An (assassinated in a car while riding back home on his motorcycle in Barangay Malusay, Guihulngan on June 20, 2006), Mr. Wilfredo Cornea (shot to death on June 26, 2006) and Mr. Mario Domingo (pursued by a former landowner’s employees on May 17, 2006). Nearly all of the cases was done by unidentified men in plain clothes, riding motorcycles. Prior to these events, all of them participated in different organizations that showed their advocacy towards genuine reforms. Be it, a prominent or a commoner. As long as there is this defensive foundation who can’t act against extra-judicial killings, every citizen would be afraid of telling their insights. They still don’t make actions despite the continuous criticisms. What is the message they want to convey? Are they afraid of something being unraveled? Or are they the perpetrators? Otherwise, why won’t they act? We are on a democratic country; we don’t need a chaotic transition lest this would lead us to worse country.
