Several Years Later. . .
A sleek black horse was galloping throught the forest. It's rider was returning to the near-by town. Her red, slightly wavy hair hung down around her skinny waist. Elegant, slender fingers held the reins in place. Lacey quickly made her way in the cold, morning air.
Her boots made a tup-tup-tup sound as she tried to sneak quietly through the still sleeping town. She opened the back door to the bakery, and went in. In a few mintues, steam was coming out of the shop, and a delightful smell lingered in the streets. Hot, fresh bread was being taken out of the oven. Customers started filing in, wanting pastries and tea for breakfast.
"Good Morning, Sir, What would you like?" she would always ask with a smile. And a smile was all she needed to make the guys fall for her and leave tips. It was now late evening, and Lacey was cleaning the shop before closing.
"Mrs. Tulune. . . can I have my pay now?"she asked meekly.
"Hm? Oh, yes, um. . . may I ask your name again, sweetie?"
"Yes, Mrs. Tulune, I'm . . . Sarah," Lacey said while wiping her fingers on her skirt-apron. Lacey had only been working for two days here, and she was uncomfortable with people knowing her name. She wasn't even sure her real name was Lacey, because of the many things her parents wrote in letters and had accidently called her.
"Here, hun," Mrs. Tulune said as she handed her the coins. "Oh. . . What wonderful eyes you have! They're such an icy blue! Your hair really makes them stand out!"She said as she followed Lacey's hair to her waist. "Darling, have you been eating?You're very thin. Tell ya what, go to the cupboard and take some of today's bread. 'Night, sugar!" She said as she walked into her room.
