She came over to my house one day. It was very warm out so we decided to go out for ice cream. She said to me, "Colleen, how can u stand this heat huh?" I said to her, "I'm not really sure. I guess I'm jsut used to it." Suddenly the clouds turned a greenish black and the sirens went off. We knew what was going on...but there was no close by shelter. So we ran into the Iowa river and hid under one of the ditches there. But it didn't help. We were both carried off into the tornado. The last thing I heard her say in the tornado was, "Dont panic, well make it through this." I got knocked out by a stick after that, and when I woke up, I was on what was left of a tree and Emily was lying face down on the concrete. I found a nearby phone and called the Ambulance.....She was sent to the emergency room. I came to visit the next day and I said to the lady at the desk, "ummm Emily Murphey?" The lady told me that she was no longer there and that she had died over night. I stood there not knowing what to believe anymore. I went to her wake and her funeral, and I never could believe it. I kept telling my self it was a bad dream, that she was really at my house. But the truth was, she wasn't. At the moment they buried her. I finally cried like i had never cried before. I had just lost my best friend, Emily Anne Murphey. It's been a year and a month since that happend...but i still remember it like it was yesterday.
