Ellie also promised Lyla she’d see if she could find the cause of her blindness. According to D’s parasitic companion, Lyla’s blindness isn’t natural. Something Luuridos confirms. Something apart from her is causing it and the fact that her eyelids seem sealed interests him very much.

D’s companion fascinates Ellie’s kids and they are always plaguing him for stories, as D is a regular visitor. The day they call him Uncle D startled him though. He has never been so welcome or understood before and he admires Ellie’s determination and ‘make the best of it’ attitude. Nor are Ellie’s kids the only ones who plague D’s companion for tales of long ago. Ellie is very interested in history and D’s companion is interested in her as well. One of the Laiaise line cross breeding with a Noble Vampire… her offspring should be truly remarkable.
Ellie just wants her kids to grow up to be happy and contented. She is determined that they will choose their own lives and fates… not merely what their father dictates for them, except for the house mutants.

She is bold, says D’s companion but whether she can pull it off against one as strong and old as Count Von Karthaig is another thing. There is more than one way to get what she wants and she has plans to spend all the time she is free of her husband teaching her children how to guard themselves and their minds from outside influences, even though he marked them after they were born. That’s why she is so grateful for D’s help.

He is around while her kids are 4 or 5 and then disappears for a few years turning up again when they are 9 or 10. They have stuck to the training he gave them and developed their own tricks and variations by practicing with their mutants. He is impressed but Ellie’s kids want to do their mother proud
