Lyla thought she had forgotten.
However, during her 2nd or 3rd pregnancy Ellie studied and tested Lyla’s eyes to find out why she is physically blind and made a startling discovery. Lyla’s eyes seem to be holding some intelligent but extremely unfriendly entity. This is why her eyelids can’t be opened.
She has 2 choices. Ellie can try and force her eyes open releasing whatever is being sealed there and possibly restoring her sight or she can choose to stay as she is, blind but not guilty of releasing a powerful, unfriendly entity to terrorize the country side.
Unsurprisingly, Lyla chooses to stay as she is. As a psi she can link up with anyone in range and use his or her eyes to see with now that Ellie has taught her how.

After she becomes a vampire Ellie tries communicating with the entity but it seems to be sleeping and Ellie feels its best not to wake it.
Once Tamm and her bro are born, (results of 2nd ‘tainted’ scientific Cell’s tinkering with Ellie and the 1st Cell leader, Natan’s d.n.a.), Ellie puts some of the resources of the Cell’s to identifying the creature and its attributes/ capabilities. It may be that Lyla derives a lot of her Psi power from the creature contained behind her lids. It also retards her aging. She and the creature have adapted to each other to the point where she is using it as an energy source.
Her creature is identified as Geborian-Zlatch, a leftover from a war at the time the Noble Vampire King Dracular roamed the earth, over 1,500 years ago. It has survived by incorporating itself into the genetic structure of one of a noble vampires servants. It was passed down from parent to child, only showing up every 5th or 6h generation, hidden behind the child’s eyelids. The child usually displayed unusual and boosted psi powers, almost always drawing the attention of a vampire noble to him or her. They were blind but lived far longer then the rest of their family.
There have been only about 3 or 4 others like Lyla in her family line but almost all of them have done great things.
Also, now that Ellie has 2 scientific Cell’s worth of technology and the monster history of at least 6 different vampire houses at her fingers, she was able to arrange for Lyla to be altered, so that tapping the Geborian’s energy she could see as if her eyes were open as well as with psi up-link.
Lyla choose not to eliminate the Geborian from her son (Fletcher- has his father’s genetic bar of silver in his ruby eyes and a slight blue tinge to his rich blond and Gene A. streaked hair that makes it appear slightly gray) and daughter’s (Shianne- father’s brown hair with bluish tinge and Gene A. streaks and a silver bar in the right of her red/brown eyes) D.N.A. (unusually, perhaps due to the genetic tinkering done by with Cell tech and/or the fact that Lyla’s mate is Gene Altered, it replicated itself in both of her children’s genetic structure) but instead to have it altered so that the Geborian was never able to surface to the point where it sealed the eyes of any of her descendants ever again.

Also she requested of her lover, the Gene Altered Scientist Gennae to have the knowledge of what was riding shotgun in their D.N.A. and possible ways of dealing with it if it ever got loose incorporated into her children’s genetic structure. Like the genetically handed down knowledge of his Cell Gennae’s children and the descendants who received the Geborian after him/her (usually the 1st born) would also be born with the knowledge of what they carried, how to deal with it if it got loose, how to tap its power without waking it and for contingency, the location of the laboratory. None of their line would ever be caught out again. The knowledge would remain in the child’s subconscious until/ unless it was needed.

Lyla is very grateful and happy. She should have known that a lady like Ellie would keep her word.
