They do grow up with fosterlings but they were only close to one.
They grew up with a brother/sister pair (Rob and Drea) who are very close to each other and a much younger boy (Donny) who tags along after them like a little brother. Rob who is a year or two short of Drea’s age and they eventually become lovers. Donny helps Drea ground and centre herself. Her power doesn’t seem to affect him overly much. Using what he learns from the ‘older sisters’ he is able to semi divert the affects of her power. It only affects him when he allows it too. He helps Drea to see the older sister’s the way Donny does, so she’s a lot more relaxed around them.

Sue and Ren treat Don like a little brother; sometimes irritating and fun to tease but most of the time they rub together harmoniously and they’d never do anything to deliberately hurt him. They don’t know Rob as well but they do learn, through Donny to see Drea as he does and treat her like a little sister too. She learns to appreciate that. It’s nice to be a proper little sister rather than merely a baby sitter who happens to be younger. They are careful to include both of them where they can.

Even when they go into training they make an effort to keep in touch…even though the ‘elder sisters’ are distracted by C.J. whom they love and are very proud of.
