We-ell, I'm technically doing this for the gold, but - is Gaia only there so that people can make avatars, get gold, and make better avatars? I dunno, since most people aren't exactly doing this for emotional benefit (except for that one retard who said Gaia was his life). Is the site just here so that you can show off the fact that you have more gold? O.o
EDIT: On the front page (before you login), there's a little blurb, and it ends with, "You're limited only by your imagination and your Gaia Gold."

I think it's also for advice, meeting up with friends, sharing stuff, etc...and also yeah like you said, showing off how much gold you have by adding stuff to your avatar.
