"Hey! Don't do that!" A boy shouted at me as I began running at the ball that rolled across the ground. "Why not? I wanna go!" I said back quickly.

Mocoso...He was such a jerk...I rolled my eyes and readied myself anyways as the kickball rolled nearer. Mocoso stomped forward, and I felt his hands on my back as he shoved me down. I lost my balance and the ball rolled forward, hitting me in the chest as I fell, and it bounced away.

Cántaro sighed. "Mocoso, just leave him alone. We're never gonna get to play if you keep being a brat." He sighed from where he stood on the pitchers mound. I respected Cántaro, He was bigger than most of us, tall and lean, but he always, or almost always stood up for me. Especially when Mocoso thought he could bully me because I was small.

"What ever!" Mocoso said as he stomped back to the line where the others waited their turn to kick the ball. I grabbed the big red ball and threw it back to Cántaro as he caught it, waiting for me to get ready.

"You ready, Rizado?" He called across the dry, hot yard. I nodded as he took a step back, wield the ball back in his hand, and rolled it quickly across the ground twords my waiting foot. Today was the day. Today I would kick three runs in a row. I could kick well, but never three in a row. It seemed I always got out at least on the third try.

Arbol stood twords the back of the field, waiting. He grinned at me as I waved a hand at him, then took my gaze back at the ball. Arbol almost always got my ball. He was so tall. Darn him. Not today. I planned this one. Arbol wasn't getting this ball.

The red ball smashed into close range and I wield my foot back, and kicked. I kicked hard as the ball flew up and over Cántaro's head as he looked up and back, shielding his eyes with his hand as he watched it. And I ran. First base was a peice of cake. I could see Arbol running to try and get to the ball first in the big field before it hit the ground.

Second base cleared. This was gonna be it. I smiled to myself, third base zoning in closer and closer. I was almost there. I glanced back, Arbol hadn't caught the ball, but he had it now in his hands. Third base cleared under my feet. It was a race to the finish now, Arbol's long legs against mine. I ran as fast as I could, home plate cleaning in the dust that blew across the yard.
'Almost there, Almost there!'

I had not even three steps left and I felt it. A smack in my side as I lost my balance, falling into the dirt in a cloud and skidded to a stop. The red ball bounced at my side. I lay there, looking at the home plate where my fingers were just inches away and groaned. Not again!

I heard Arbol laugh as he trotted over to my side. "You okay, bud?" He asked as he I rolled over onto my back. "Darn you, I almost had it!" I wailed at him and he laughed again. "Sorry, Shorty. I can't just LET you win though." He grinned and picked the ball back up, winging it back at Cántaro. "Better luck next time!" Cántaro called across the yard.

Arbol helped me up as I dusted my clothes off. I heard Mocoso snicker as he made his way to home plate to kick next. That guy....
'Next time.'
I didn't want next time, but took my place at the back of the line. Simpatía, one of the few girls that played with us smiled back at me. "You'll get it next time." I nodded. She was nice, but was just like one of the boys most of the time. She turned, watching as Mocoso kicked, and the ball flew over Cántaro.
"Next time.." I repeated quietly to myself.

I'd get it next time...

Major apologize for the suckish Spanish names...If you look up what they translate to, I think you'd pee yourself laughing at my lazyness...DX
