Chapter 1 {Faith}
The first day of school was a blur. I walked up the paved walkway to the front door that said Westchester High School. My heart started to do flips as I inched closer towards the Hell hole. I only made it as far as the door. Trying to go through was not a problem but opening it was making the veins pop out of my forehead.
I heard footsteps behind me and a whoosh that made me jump in an instance. A guy, looking one year older than me stepped through the door with ease. I on the other hand had a shock look on my face eek as he opened the door and held it open for me.
"I take it you are new here," asked the guy in a curious tone.
I watched him with cutting eyes and made sure that he didn't notice my mistake.
"I guess you could say that. Why, is it that obvious?"
"Well not being able to open doors I guess qualifies as being obvious."
He stared me down with excitement in his eyes but his voice was sharp.
"Do you always have trouble on your first day," he asked stopping in the hallway?
"I don't think that's any of your knowing....I just met you and I'm not going to pour you my life story."
"Well now, does that mean this kind of stuff happens to you all the time?"

I starred in his blue eyes and felt revolted by his question. stare I started to walk the other way but a hand stopped me from going foward.
"Look, I know your new...so let me show you around," he smiled blissfully like he found a rare and precious jewel.
"I don't think I want to do that....I mean I'm sorry but I really don't need any help. I'm capable of doing things on my own.
"Okay but if you need me to open difficult doors for you, just give me a call."
"By the way...my name is Arthur Metz."
I gestured a node in his direction and ended his conversation. "Nice meeting you Arthur."
I turned my back on him and stormed away towards the main office. I couldn't help but notice that when I turned my head, Arthur kept looking back at me with a smile on his face. I picked up the pace to ensure he would stop staring at me but no luck had come my way. I rushed into the office hoping to escape his stare and the uneasy feeling I had in the pit of my stomach. When I opened the door it made a horrible squeaking noise that I had to cover my ears while holding it open. Inside the room a woman was cleaning up her desk in the middle of the room. I was the only student in there.
I turned to the woman who reminded me of my great aunt Sandy. This woman had sandy blonde hair with frail blue eyes. Her eyes hid behind big bifocals that magnified them into bug eyes. She was tiny and skinny with fragile bones and her skin seemed to hang on to those bones. I walked up to her hoping that I wouldn't call her auntie Sandy in the process.
"Hello my dear. What can I help you with," she asked while looking at me with hopeful eyes.
"Um, I'm new here...just moved here from Hayword. I was wondering if I could get my schedule?"
"What's your name dear," she looked up at me with her bug eyes and I had to choke down a giggle.
"My name is Faith Hammel." Ugh I scoffed at the sound of my name and she looked up from her computer.
"Faith huh? My sister was named Faith...she loved that name to death. Of course it fits you more than it did her."
"Yeah I get that a lot. I'm not a big...." I stopped in mid sentence and made sure to not ramble on to some stranger the history and the pros and cons of my name.
She noticed my harsh tone and left the conversation at that. I heard a printer in the next room which seemed to be the teacher lounge. She walked through the door and popped out in a second.
"Here we are," she said taking her glasses off and handing the schedule to me. "I'm Mrs. Viola. I hope your first day here will be a pleasant one."

I smiled and took the schedule out of her hand. I gave a fake smile that made my cheeks hurt. "Thank you for all your help and kind words."
She smiled back and waved me on while I stepped outside into the hallway. It was quiet and I noticed that none of the kids had arrived yet. So I took my time getting to my locker and tried to find all my classrooms one by one. I had the feeling I was being watched. The hair behind my neck stood up which made me have goose bumps all over. I turned around to see that no one was behind me. I walked on whistling quietly to myself. That didn't seem to make me feel any better. I watched at the corner of my eye that someone had ducked behind a corner like they were following me. I turned around so fast that I thought I had whiplash. As I rubbed the pain out of my neck, I found my first class. It was all the way on the other side of the school and it was in a dead end hallway. I sighed and walked to my locker hoping to have some relief of putting my books away. When I finally found my locker after ten minutes, I fumbled with my lock for twenty minutes.
"Here let me help you. What's your combination," asked Arthur who was standing so close that are shoulders nearly touched.
"Do you not take no for an answer. I said I could do things on my own. I don't need your help at all."
"I know but I always help a damsel in distress. It's how I was raised."
"Excuse me....I'm in no mood to know what you do in your past time."
"Your excused. He looked at me with those clear blue eyes and smiled. "If you won't let me help you at least grace me with your name."
I sighed hoping my name wasn't going to come up in the conversation but he noticed it before I could utter another word.
"Oh your name is Faith Hammel. He was looking down at my notebook with my name plastered in greek lettering. My mom always loved to label things. She seemed to label our tv all the way down to the last candle stick. My school stuff was no exception.
"Yeah I guess my mom is a freak like that," I put my books in my locker and shut the door almost slamming it in his face. "She loves to label anything. Once she labeled our cat Midnight." I watched his reaction but all I found was curiosity. I couldn't believe myself. I never talked about my personal life in front of someone I didn't know. I turned around hoping he didn't catch I was blushing.
"I can see you get your weirdness from your mother. It's okay...I won't tell that your family is nuts," he said with a mocking voice.
I turned to face him, but he was gone before I could say another word. He seemed to be popping up everywhere I went and leaving just the same. Frustrated and ashamed I picked up my backpack and found the library close by. I took out my book and found a comfy chair to sit in while I waited for the first bell to ring. In moments I heard kids in the hallway, lockers slamming, kids laughing, teachers screaming, and the thing I hated the most, girls gossiping. I put my book away carefully in my bag and slung it over my shoulder. I walked slowly to the door to make sure that none of the girls were behind it. When I stepped out into the hallway it was packed. I had to push through people to get to the other side of the school to my first class.
I saw an opening in the hall and started to walk in a fast pace so I could kill time. The next thing I knew I was on the floor with a minor headache. Everyone around me started to laugh and point towards my direction. I was the new girl and I was also a freak. I tried to get up but the pain made me collapse again. A hand caught my arm and pulled me up off the ground. When I stood up and faced him, I never noticed how his features were captivating. Arthur faced me with dissaproving eyes. I staggered to my feet and took stole a long look at his direction. He was talller than me and had soft blue eyes that seemed to look like the ocean after a storm. He had a dimple in his chin that grew everytime he tried to smile. He held on to me with his strong arms and I saw through his long sleeved shirt that he was flexing. He had a sculpted body like a god and I was covering my curves like I do whenever I go to the beach.
I felt dizzy and started to fall backwards when I stood up. He pulled me close to him and held me tight against his chiseled chest. I could feel his heart racing against his ribs and I thought my heart would split open. I took a quick whiff of his shirt and found myself falling again. He held me tight against his body and wouldn't let me go until I was fine to stand by myself. He walked me to the nurses office gently pulling me along to make sure I didn't feel rushed. When I sat down on the chair he motioned the nurse to hurry up and bring all her attention to me. I put my head down on the other chairs and waited until the nurse finally helped me. When she shook me to make sure I was breathing I shot up from my spot and looked around quickly to see if he was still there. My savior had left me in the nurses office and was no where to be found. I went to the room with a bed in the corner to lay down. I woke up two periods later with a bump on my forehead.
