The Top Hat Pirates
The first three entries are from a story I was writing a while back, and from then on is my history and the history of the Top Hat Pirates.
Chapter One
Darkness. The scent of mildew and rot filled the musty air. There was little sound but the soft clink of chains as I moved and the faint sound of my breathing. I wasn't feeling much other than shock. I couldn't remember much but the death of my father, and an important fight. A fight I knew I should remember every detail of, but hard as I tried, I couldn't.

I was thrown in an aged prison cell without explanation, and no way to get out, at least, none I could easily see. I realised the only way out would be when they came to check on me, but I had no clue why I was here. They might've left me to die. My right eye ached and I put up a hand to rub it.

I quickly withdrew my hand after the feeling of warmth ran down my arm and there was a dripping sound on the floor. It smelled like blood, and it came from my eye. I kept it shut tight. great, I thought. now I'm going to be blind and only see with my left eye. I sat there in the corner, and waited for whatever was to come.

A few days passed, or what seemed like it. There were no windows so I couldn't tell the time of day. The eye stopped bleeding, but still ached greatly. I kept it shut still. I decided they must have left me in here to die because no one had come to give me food and I was hungry.

I lied down and tried to sleep, until I heard a heavy door open and footsteps coming closer. Light flooded the room and my eye strained to adjust quickly. A figure walked into the light and their features slowly revealed themselves to me.

The man who appeared was familiar, but I couldn't figure out who it was. "Asheill?" The voice, so familiar...I backed away and the chains followed. "It's Nethaniel, I'm going to get you out of here!" I didn't know this man.

"I don't know anyone named Nethaniel!" I yelled. I knew he wasn't lying, I could tell, but I didn't remember him.

Nethaniel came closer and stared at me. "What have they done to you?" He sounded concerned, which was starting to scare me because I knew I should know him. "Nothing," I replied. "That's why I'm still here!" He knelled and picked the locks on the chains.

"So you don't remember," I ripped a piece of cloth from my sleeve and tied it around my head, covering my right eye. "Thanks and all, but I don't know why I'm here, I could be a wanted criminal and you could be my partner-in-crime. I might've killed someone!" Now I was scaring myself.

"do you truly believe that?" There was a long silence, followed by footsteps down the corridor. "We must hurry, they probably heard the door open. I know a shortcut!" He grabbed my arm and pulled me in the opposite direction of the footsteps.

I followed him down the dimly-lit corridor, and the farther away we got, the closer the footsteps seemed. They stopped right around where the cell the cell I was in was. The voices were hard to make out because we were running farther away at the full speed of a human.

"Someone picked the chains, she's gone."

"He won't be happy when he hears this, I'm sure glad I won't be the one to tell him.

"Heads will be rolling. I can't believe we let Her Highness slip-"

One of the other voices interrupted. "If His Majesty heard that, he'd kill you!"

"Right, I can't believe that...woman got-"

The voices became too far away to hear.

"You can't go faster?" Nethaniel had stopped and was breathing heavily. " I am only Human, as I am slower and lose more energy. We lost the now, they're far enough back that I can rest." He pointed towards the end of the corridor. "That'll take you to Syon. I'll stay behind to stall those guards." I hesitated. "May Mikhail be with you." I clasped my hands together with the index fingers pointed towards my head and bowed, wishing him luck.

"Thank you, Your-" He interrupted himself. "Asheill." He motioned good luck and started in the other direction. I watched him disappear into the darkness and I turned towards the light.
