All the World is a Stage
Rhia was working on the lights, being as careful as possible not to crack the flourescent lens that would light the stage pale blue. She knew I had come in. Rhia always knew that kind of thing.

"So, how was dentention?" Her voice was slightly hesitant, and I knew that in her own odd way, she was sorry for having gotten me into her trouble.

"Let's not talk about detention." I sighed, dropping my heavy grey shoulder bag. The books were lodged so tightly into it that none of them fell out as the backpack tipped the entire chair over. I cursed folding chairs as I set it upright again.

I looked around the semi-dark theatre, knowing that soon it would be all mine. The last of the Techies, as the stage hands and set creation team called themselves, were busy collecting their things, ready to leave for the day.

The minute that they left, Rhia and I would have the place to ourselves. Nothing thrilled me more than that.

I closed my eyes, knowing that the lights wouldn't be ready for a few more minutes. I didn't sleep, but I day-dreamed...

I was on stage in a blue, soft day dress. It wasn't elegant, and it didn't poof out like any of the actual costumes. My hair was down, but it had been pulled out of my eyes, and in the spotlight I didn't look like a loser. I didn't look like myself.

The boy from the door was there, even though I didn't really mean to add him to my fantasy. I shrugged mentally. The boy was just good daydream material.

"So, tell me more, tell me why you will not have me?" He was slightly upset, and very aggressive. It was a play, though, and he wasn't really mad at me...

I smiled at him, then laughed. It was a carefree sound, and it rippled throughout the room. "You? You are not for me, Sir."

He advanced, three steps, but it felt like he was right before me, not an inch away. His eyes were alight, and I smiled at the emotion there. "Why? I have chosen you." His statement sent shivers.

I don't know when I had lost control over my day-dream, but it was clear that I had. He held my forearm in his hand, like I was no more than a child in comparasin to his size.

"You belong to another."

"I have not met her, and do not desire to."

I tried to tug my arm away. I didn't know how I knew any of this. It had changed somehow, and my innocent play was ruined. This was real, serious--

"Wake up, Ellune! Now!" Rhia's sharp command made me snap my eyes open. She had never spoken to me that way before. It was like I had been struck with a whip. Her words hit me.

"What were you dreaming about?" It was a demand. Rhia had never been this way, and she scared me. Her dark green eyes were bright, almost silvery.

"I... Some boy. Some boy, that's all." My voice was defensive, but slightly weak as well. That bothered me. "What does it matter?"

"What did he look like? Have you ever seen him before? Please, please Ellune, I need to know."

"Yes. I saw him in the detention room. He was in the doorway. Rhia, what's the matter?"

"Cameron."

"What?" I laid my hand on her shoulder, but she flinched away hard. She smiled, a feral, damning smile. I don't know whether it was just a trick of the light, or if it had been real, but there were fangs in that quick, evil smile.

"Cameron. He's here, and he's done." Rhia smiled, a true mischevious Rhia smile at me, though it seemed false now. "Stay here, Ellune, and I'll be back. Remember, you can't leave the class room un-attended."

When she darted out the door I felt trapped. Alone in the auditorium of the Drama room, I shivered, that feeling I had felt in detention sneaking over me like icy hands.

I turned to call out to Rhia, but my mouth was covered. I panicked, kicking, fighting, screaming... All of it was muted, halted, and muffled by the cloth pressed over my mouth.

I felt dizzy, weak, and then I realized what was happening. Like in the moveies, I was being kidnapped. Before I passed out the chloraform towel was removed from my mouth, and a saw out of the corner of my eye dark read hair.
