Ad-setting day is always bad. Something to do with driving to work in the snow at four in the morning (after being awakened at midnight by a snow-plowing truck. Thing. Whatever those are called.). Susan always sets Fashion. Katlyn always sets Home. Since Nikki quit because manager John was horrible to her, Rebekkah always sets HBC. Which left Marsha and I to do everything else (floral, school and office, seasonal, electronics, toys, sporting goods, automotive, hardware, plumbing & electrical, and pets). Now, Marsha's always been a little...slow. I don't know if she has trouble reading, or if she has a learning disability, or what. But we've all explained things to her several times. Over and over. In multiple ways. And she'll nod her head like she's got it. But she apparently never gets it. And we all felt bad, but what could we do? It was kind of like we had to do her work, too. So when I divide up our part of the ad, I always took the larger portion. I've asked her what she wants to do, and she says she doesn't care.
So this week I was going to take electronics, seasonal, school and office, and floral. Seasonal is huge because of Christmas - plus all the trees, outdoor lighted decor, and oversized ornaments went 50% clearance today and had to be signed. And most other things were 40% off in the ad. Electronics is always difficult to sign because one has to locate all of the DVDs, CDs, and video games. School and office was all tape and mailing supplies and calendars, and floral was various poinsettias and mini trees. Since Nikki left I have been in charge of sorting the ad, so I tried to make sure I had all the signs I needed and that they all were right, etc.
But then Marsha decided that she didn't want to do toys. I didn't want to give her seasonal because it was so huge (most of a box), so I gave her the electronics signs. She said that was okay.
So I set toys and wallowed in seasonal signs. Have I mentioned that I hate glitter? And that most of the Christmas things are covered in glitter?
But according to one of the electronics guys, Marsha said she couldn't find most of the things in electronics and gave him all her signs. Sigh.
And right before I left, I learned that our manager let her go. I feel bad for her, and I feel bad for us that we're out yet another person during the busiest time of year. I wish he could have put her somewhere else in the store...somewhere with limited mental activities. Not that our job is that hard. It just requires an iota of thought.
So that was unpleasant.
And then I got home and took a nap.
I thought that our group project was all wrapped up. Myself and two other people have to present in class tomorrow on Preservation and Conservation. Another girl and I met on Friday to clean up our PowerPoint. The guy in our group was supposed to show up, but he didn't. I had my stuff on our Wiki, and so did he, but she didn't really know how to get hers formatted correctly. We both thought that he could do it. Apparently he didn't want to or something. And he changed his slides. So she was going to fix all the slides, and she called me this afternoon and asked me to add her stuff to the Wiki.
Well.
We are in graduate school. And they both are nice people. But they really need to learn to proofread. Seriously. I spent hours and hours trying to correct grammar and spelling and make all the formatting work. I even had my ex-English-teacher mother help with some of the weird sentences that they came up with. And I am mortally afraid for what our PowerPoint is going to look like. The girl is supposed to be sending it to me, but as of now, she has yet to send it in a format my computer can open.
And I'd really like to see my slides so that I know what I'm supposed to talk about tomorrow.
I have the slides I made before, but she mentioned maybe adding another one (something the guy said he was going to talk about but now he's not).
Argh. Just argh.
