Black and White, and the millions shades of gray in between
This journal is mostly for me to post my poems, and an occasional free write. Probably the theme of this journal will be the differences between how people view black and white, good and evil.
The Bridge
There was a quiet spot he liked to go to when things got too much. It was an old stone bridge that he had discovered in the woods, while trying to get away from the bullies.

It had moss and ivy growing out of it almost making the bridge made more out of plants then stone, but it had survived at least a 100 years like this and would probably last another 100 years.

Personally he hoped that it would last forever.

He walked quietly along the faded path that led to the bridge. He was careful not to disturb the silence, which seemed to fill the air with a kind of magic. He looked around him taking in the changes that had happened since his last visit.

A tree had fallen, its trunk burned and blackened from lighting.

The brightly colored leaves that created a thick carpet over the dried grass, were a little more brown the orange or red.

‘Almost the end of the season’

A small smile formed, as he round the last corner to his bridge.

He stopped suddenly at the sight of a girl sitting on the one of the moss covered edges , tapping her feet to a rhythm that only she could hear. Her hair was a crisp brown and hung in a thick braid that seemed to twitch like a cat’s tail when the wind blew.

He wanted to be annoyed that his space had been invaded, but he could bring himself to dislike the girl yet. He would wait to pass judgment on her and see what her reaction to him would be.

He walked down to the path and stopped right before the dirt path gave way to old stones. The girl had watched him come closer but hadn’t said anything.

He wanted to say something but chose not to, instead placing his foot onto the bridge. He walked until he was about a foot or two away from the girl’s left side and leaned on the edge himself and gazed at the flow of water that the bridge spanned.

They stayed like this for awhile, until the girl moved off the edge and looked at him, a serious expression on her face.

“I’m Rachel.”

“Daniel.” She flashed a quick grin

“You go to school around here?” He almost winced at the thought of school, but managed not to.

“Yeah.”

“Good I’ll see you around then.” And with that she walked off going in the opposite direction he had come in. He briefly wondered if she was new to the town, but decided that it didn’t matter, because he had just added another friend to his rather short list of friends. Even better was that he had someone he could share this place with. After all what was the point of knowing about such a magical place if you couldn’t share it with someone?
