Black and White, and the millions shades of gray in between
This journal is mostly for me to post my poems, and an occasional free write. Probably the theme of this journal will be the differences between how people view black and white, good and evil.
The Visitor
Wisdom that came only from many long years of existence and amusement (probably from the look on his face), were clearly exhibited in the small cat-like, yellow eyes that were staring up at him.

He blinked….

It was still there. It seemed to laugh and blew out a couple puffs of smoke, before settling quietly against the truck of a nearby tree.
He looked at Rachel, who was looking back at him with the same dumbfounded expression on her face.

“Y…you see it too…right?” he asked, too nervous that he might be going crazy to be embarrassed by his stutter.
“A mini-dragon.” She paused and looked at it again to make sure it was still there and still real, “Yep I’m seeing it to.”

“You think it’s always been here?” Daniel couldn’t stop staring at the small brown-gold form curled up among the leaves. It looked rather comfortable in its makeshift nest.

“Probably.” Rachel shrugged before adding, “I wonder what it eats?”

“Squirrels.”

“Squirrels!” Rachel exclaimed, seemingly horrified at the idea. Daniel glanced at her like she was weird , “Squirrels are cute, and I had one as a pet a long time ago.” Rachel trailed off. For a few moments only the sound of the water moving under the bridge could be heard. They now met here afterschool on a regular basis. Although today was the first day that they had seen the new resident of their spot.

“Do you really think it eats squirrels?” Rachel asked again breaking the silence, a worried expression on her face.

“Well, we could always ask it.” Daniel suggested. He was becoming rather use to the idea that dragons were real, and he was excited that if dragons were real then what other types of creatures were real as well?

“Well here it goes then.” Rachel moved closer to the dragon, making sure to leave plenty of room between the two of them, “Excuse me Mr. Dragon, but do you eat squirrels?”

The dragon lazily lifted his head and gave a decisive shake of his head, indicating that he, in fact, did not eat squirrels.

“Ahhhh thank you, and sorry for bothering you.” Rachel scooted back to the tree that she and Daniel had been sitting under. She looked at him and smiled, giggles began to escape her mouth, and of course once she started he did too.

Soon they laughter could be heard throughout the clearing, and curled up in his nest the dragon rolled its eyes at the two humans.
