One day, on the bus, I met a girl whose name was Annie; she had beautiful blonde hair, and a smile full of warmth. I get up the nerve to talk to her like a flash, having experience in theatre, and we start to talk. She seems like a nice person. I become her friend on that bus.

It turns out that she has the same Biology class I have. I feel good to have a class with her, I don’t know why though.

She sits two seats behind me. Until then I hadn’t thought to look behind me. She had me look back to see her and then we smile, and I turn back, paying attention to class. And she is always there, two seats behind me in class, and I never knew until that day.

So we go on for a couple of weeks as friends, “just friends” I think, “just friends for now. But when the time is right, you’ll ask her.” One week from homecoming, I ask her. But it’s just before we walk out, so I have to wait until the bus for her answer. All day I feel electricity through my veins, and I fantasize what will happen while we dance, and I can’t wait until the bus, only to hear that someone had already asked her, a sophomore.
I keep it together by slyly shrugging it off and thinking, “oh well.” The next day, at nutrition, I break down. I think, “Why hadn’t I asked her earlier? What’s wrong with me? Will I ever find a girlfriend?” I feel depressed and unloved, and it begins to softly rain.

That day, on the bus, I get there too late. Annie is not there. So I sit there, in a bus full of strangers. I don’t talk because I don’t know anyone. Later I go to Homecoming, alone, but over her & hoping we will later get together. And we never do, So it goes. But today, the rain falls on my head.

And as I walk home, the canopy of trees on our street shields me from the rain.
