On the small island of [the] Shallow Lagoon, there sits what looks like an ordinary shrine. And what the shrine is overlooking as it sits on the small hill is a shallow lagoon, which is only a few inches deep to one and a half feet deep all around the isle. And standing at the water's edge is none other than Hanaba Kin.
When the Hanaba elders of the family chose Kin as the heir to the Underground Oasis, a type of Paradise close but not-quite-like Eden, she declined. Her reasoning for this? "I value the outside too much to be locked in here, sorry."
Because of this, Kin was chosen to guard the island instead, especially the outside and inside of the Hanatama Shrine, which doubles as the living quarters for Kin. From there, life was sweet.
In her place, Kin's younger sister Hanaba Mejime [花場 めじめ (はなば めじめ)] was chosen to rule the Oasis.
Kin couldn't rule anyways, even if she wanted to.
The throne would not accept her.
After all, she wasn't of Hanaba blood. Adopted, that's what she was.
Mejime didn't know. She couldn't.
And even though she could not take the throne, Kin was given two gifts by the family: a Tachi and Wakizashi. Both were named Jojoushi (叙情詩 - Lyric) and Ren (連 - Stanza), respectively. Kin rarely used Jojoushi, mostly because it was hard having to lug around a blade as long as she was tall. Which was big, to be honest. Besides, Ren was so much cuter.~
As a servant to the Hanaba family, her place in the hierarchy is still unknown, although things have been said.
