Chapter 1: The new Kid
Chapter 1:
The New Kid

Jade knew that today was going to be another boring day at school. There was never anything interesting happening since they had moved from New Mexico. Jade would always dread the cold and the snow that Maine had to offer.

She was sitting in her biology class, thinking about how she would get to Witch’s School tonight. Ms. Frelox would kill me if I missed another day, not to mention mom Jade though. She would never forgive her mother for not letting her get her driver’s license when she had turned sixteen. No, Emmett and James can’t drive me. They have football practice. But then again sometimes they skip, she thought. Her older brothers where the stars of the football, baseball, and basketball teams. How could they not be? She wondered. Emmett and James where identical twins. They where eighteen, a year older then her. They have shiny, jet black hair, just like her. Only Jade’s hair was straight as a pin, and their hair was as curly as a mouse’. They both had muscular builds and dark chocolate, brown eyes. By everybody’s definition the where the best athletes that the state of Maine had. She had always laughed when ever she saw the twins together, with a bunch of girls following them. The only difference between the brothers was that Emmett was six feet three inches tall, and James was six feet fix inches. For some unknown reason James had always and will always tease Emmett for being shorter. Why would he tease Emmett about being “short” when he could obviously taunt Jeremy? She puzzled. She had asked James that once and he only shrugged.

Jeremy was Jade’s younger brother. He was only fourteen. He has hoped for years that he would finally grow, and be tall, like Emmett and James. Jeremy was only five feet four inches. He was always mad about that. Which I don’t get seeing as he is an inch taller than me, she thought, but then again, he was still shorter then Elizabeth. Jeremy had wavy light brown hair. He said that he had only one feature about himself that he liked his strikingly handsome hazel eyes. One of the things that always popped into Jade’s mind whenever she saw him was the way he held himself. When he stood you got this strange feeling that he was a smart, important boy. You got strange feelings like that from everybody in her family. But, the most obvious feeling was that of Elizabeth’s. Whenever you where around her you always felt very calm and in control.

Elizabeth greatly resembled Jeremy, in a way, except that Elizabeth was very tall and studious. Elizabeth was tall for a women, she was five feet nine inches tall. She had the same feathery light brown hair, which went down to her shoulders, and hazel eyes, that Jeremy had. She was four years older than him too, she was 19. Jade’s mother, Lynn, was always busy, what with tending to the store, and visiting Scott, Jade’s father, who, for business reasons, had to stay in New Mexico for an extra two years. When Lynn was busy, Elizabeth always took the role of mother.

I wish Scott would come home soon, Jade thought, and so does Lucy, I hate to see her suffer like this. Lucy was Jade’s ten year old sister. Lucy was so young that it wasn’t fair to her to not have a father in the house. Lucy had feathery, pastel blonde hair, which always was as light and puffy as a cloud. Her eyes, Jade wondered in amazement, they where the most beautiful color in the world, they where such a light frosty blue, that they were almost the color of snow. Jade had always been jealous of Lucy’s small delicate figure that always reminded her of porcelain. The closest figure to Lucy’s was Jade’s and Violet’s even then they were not that resembling.

Violet was Jade’s twin sister. You could tell they where sisters, but they were not identical like Emmett and James. Violet had such light brown eyes that they were almost gold. She had shiny dark brown hair, and was studious looking. But, she had the same figure as Jade, which was short and small facial features. The way she her face was shaped and the way she held herself made her look stubborn, but, sweet. She had also looked mysterious like Jade, Emmett, and James.

People had told Jade that she was the most beautiful in her family. She didn’t agree. She thought that Lucy’s snow white eyes where the most beautiful, or her porcelain figure, or Elizabeth’s calming personality, or Violet’s stunning hair color. Jade had jet, black hair that was straight as a pin, and it swung neatly down to her hips. She also had bangs that reached down to her eyebrows. She was five feet three inches tall. And she had the darkest brown eyes that where almost black. Her skin was as white as a ghost and she had the slightest pink blush on her cheekbones. Her friends had always said that all of her physical features made her look very mysterious and alluring.

It was odd, Jade thought, that part of her family looked exactly the same, and the other parts looked exactly opposite. But then again, it was only to be expected because some of them where in the same aurora, or had the same type of power. When people were in the same aurora they were expected to look very similar. The four different aurora’s where Airien, Mirieck, Rayne, and Urackle. Lucy and Lynn (her mother) are in the Airien aurora. Elizabeth, Scott (her father), and Jeremy are all in the Mirieck aurora. Violet, Emmett, James, and Jade are all in the Rayne aurora. Nobody in her family was in the Urackle aurora, but that was a very rare aurora to be in.

Everybody in the Airien aurora usually had feathery blonde hair, light frosty blue eyes, a small delicate figure, and the girls tended to look porcelain. The Mirieck aurora tended to have light brown hair, hazel eyes, be medium height, and they, for the most part, looked smart. People in the Rayne aurora have dark brown hair, they were mysterious looking, and were tall and studious. It was very rare to see somebody in the Urackle aurora, but Jade had been told that they had red hair, emerald green eyes, they looked stubborn, and where about medium height.

Of course, there were exceptions to every rule. Elizabeth was tall but she was supposed to be medium height. Jade and Violet were supposed to be tall but they was short. Lynn was supposed to have light blue eyes, but she had the darkest blue eyes. Scott was supposed to have very light brown hair, but he had dark hair. His hair was nowhere near as dark as Jade’s though.

Then suddenly, her biology teacher, Mr. Warner, announced, “Jade Wealens! Are you listening? I said that we have a new student. He has moved here from Bismarck, North Dakota. His name is Sean
Reisener.” At that moment, the new kid Sean walked in. He is GORGEOUS! Jade mentally screamed. Sean’s head scanned the room, his eyes lingered on Jade. Oh my god he is looking at me! Jade thought, look at the red hair! OH! His arm band, it’s got the symbol of a witch on it! Whoever picked a black foxglove was truly insane, but at least nobody would wear those if they weren’t witches. Foxgloves where most hideous flowers in the world. “Mr. Reisener, would you please take a seat, anywhere you would like,” Mr. Warner had said, “It looks like we have open seats next to Jade, Rae, Brooklyn, Violet, and Jasper.” Oh my god he’s walking towards me! Jade was bursting with happiness; he’s sitting next to me! Mr. Warner announced “Students, I will be checking your essays from last week. So you may have an hour to work on homework or socialize. You have to whisper though.”

Sean turned towards Jade and said “Are you an aurora Rayne? I am an aurora Urackle.” Wow! You could obviously tell he was an Urackle. What with his curly bright red hair and emerald green eyes that sparkled beautifully. But, WOW! An Urackle. So rare! Thought Jade.

Jade said, with an unnecessary amount of enthusiasm, “Yes. Wow you’re an Urackle! That’s so rare!” Humans would frequently mistake an Unrackle for somebody that was Irish. But, witches were not allowed to correct there mistake. Humans may never figure out about witches, or we may have more repeats of things like the Salem Witch Trials. Nobody would ever want to relive those drastic times.

Sean replied “Are there any others? Like us? What are their auroras? Are they nice? Maybe we could get a group going and hang out sometimes.” He looks very excited, he’ll be happy to know that there is witch’s school. Maybe he’ll let me take him there later. It will be so much fun Jade was getting happier and happier as she went on. Just then Brooklyn, Rae, Violet, and Jasper all lightly tapped her on the shoulder.

Jade turned toward her family and friends after jumping three feet in the air and trying to muffle a scream. “Oh! You surprised me guys! How many times have I told you not to do that? One day I might get a heart attack and you will be the cause of it! Anyway,” she turned back to Sean, “we’ll talk at lunch; it’s not the most secretive place here. Our lunch table is in the back of the cafeteria. See you later Sean.” Just then the bell rang and Jade hurried out of her seat towards the door, but not without giving Sean a parting glance. He was staring at Brooklyn and Rae as they left their seats.

Of all the rotten luck! Of course he was already staring at Brooklyn! She was an Airien aurora for crying out loud! But then again he could have been staring at Rae. She was a Rayne aurora, just like me. Jade thought bitterly. They are my friends I shouldn’t be saying anything like that. I wish them the best of luck with him. But make no mistake, I will go down fighting! He did pick the seat next to me though… but that could have only been because I was the only one wearing any type of foxglove clothing Jade thought as she fingered the leather cord that had emerald jewel in the middle of it. Incased in the emerald there was a black foxglove.
